How would I imagine it to be? I don't have a romantic idea of the place. I've only spent a few days in Dublin but every summer my city is filled with drunk Irish on work visas and the women are caked up with makeup. Disappointingly similar to Americans. I know there's a housing crisis there but I'm wondering about rural areas.

So if you're aware that Dublin is basically just a shittier American micro state why do you want to move? There's basically no work outside of the big cities other than agriculture and it's not easy to integrate into rural irish communities

Depends on the area. And remember that 100km in the USA and 100km in Ireland are not the same, so it's not like you can (easily) live in Galway and work in Dublin or something.

I don't recall eire being this dead in the past.
The old posters must have grown up and are now living happy lives with their families.

I was told that universities resell their old desktops, or sell them on to a third party. UL was dumping a bunch of PC's last year, and I knew people who just took them (they had them outside in cages) but they really weren't worth taking.
I am not sure what third party sells them in Ireland. but there is plenty of sellers in the UK selling decent dell optiplex computers. Just google search.

Not planning to move there but Dublin seems far nicer than most of our cities. Obviously based off very little but people were kind compared to rest of Europe, or at least weren't up their own asses. Met with an Irish friend of a friend there who commented on how it can be dirty and diverse and I found that absurd in comparison to here. And I was looking at Ireland because I can move/work in EU but only speak English. England is way too full.

But genuine thanks for your insight. Typically it's sugar coated "everyone's welcome diversity is our strength" stuff. My relative has family in rural Ireland that he visits (might meet them) and he said it's a hard life.

That looks good. It depends what your budget is as to whether it's a great deal or false economy, because it seems to be a very good price for what's contained in the deal. However, I was wondering what your graphics card was. If you haven't bought it yet that's interesting, because it seems to me based on the CPU in that computer it's the graphics card that will be the bottleneck. So you have to hunt now for a graphics card.

That's true, but it's beside the point. It may be cynical, and money driven, but it's still a good experience.
If you want passion, stick to GAA, or the lower leagues.

Oh, and another thing is you may still want to consider switching the case - it might not fit the graphics card, and the airflow might not be good enough even if it does.

Cheers. I haven't bought a graphics card yet. I was going to buy the desktop first, and then get one that's compatible.
I think I got the idea by watching people on YouTube who build insanely cheap gaming PC's by using the same method.
The suppliers seem trustworthy, if reviews are anything to go by. Don't know what I will do about an OS, just assumed it wasn't that hard to boot a pirated version of windows to a PC, but maybe I am wrong?

I've never built a PC before but I'm doing the groundwork in researching how to do it before I intend to do it (maybe the end of this year).

I did google the particular desktop you linked. It's "small form factor", which is probably a bad thing for a gaming PC, especially if it wasn't originally meant for gaming. It's got an i7 though, which is basically strong enough for most gaming, even if that one is the 2012 model. There's plenty of videos of it with the second-most recent graphics card playing everything from 2018 at 60fps, and that's just what I got from googling "i7 3770 in 2019".
I think the thing with CPUs is that raw power is more of a thing that holds up rather than modernity. Overclocking also lets CPUs choke out some more raw strength, but you wouldn't be able to do that in a small form factor case with fans that weren't built for holding a gaming card, let alone overclocking. So maybe consider buying something like that if you think you can transplant it into a bigger case with better fans.

Graphics card-wise I don't think you can get away with a 2012 era card. The other thing is that cards are also in demand for coin mining, so it'll be harder to find deals. They are changing the generation of the cards at the minute, so there might be people offloading their old ones. 1000s and 900s are the ones that are still somewhat current, but it's still best to buy more modern than older, because it seems to me that in GPUs staying up to date matters much more than CPUs. You can count the years they'll last based on how far they are from the current generation.
Look around and if you see a model in your price range compare it to what's current.

I don't know anything about how to change OS's, or what to do to be 100% safe when buying secondhand.
