Sugar islands were more valuable than Canada which produced nothing of value (except fish, but this kept going on because St Pierre & Miquelon remained French), and nobody from France wanted to move there, so the colony was going nowhere.
Also, as of today Guadeloupe is still a part of France while Canada no longer is part of England.

France could have held on to a large part of Africa, and what bits of India it still had. Most African countries were given the choice to stay or become independent, and (much to the embarrassment of the French government), several opted to remain.
Gabon even formally applied to join France after it became independent!
But the truth is, most territories would have been a burden if the sizable populations had been given full citizen status and welfare rights. Which was the only politically viable thing in the 1960s.
So, France kept what was both profitable and willing to stay.

It would be meddling in the affairs of a democratic country (no question Canada is that), and a formal ally to boot (both Canada and France are NATO members today, agreed to defend each other against aggression as per Article V).
