>Torontonians could find themselves “doubling up” on housing with friends or relatives in the coming years as the city’s breakneck population growth outstrips the supply of new housing, an urban planning expert is warning.
>In an analysis published online this week, researchers Frank Clayton and Eva Shi of Ryerson University’s Centre for Urban Research and Land Development found that Toronto is the fastest-growing city in the U.S. or Canada, and by a long shot. The city added more than 77,000 net new residents in the year ending in July, 2018, more than three times as many people as the next municipality, Phoenix, Ariz.
>RYERSON UNIVERSITY/HUFFPOST CANADA
But while that may look like success from some perspectives, it means the city is risking a serious housing crisis, study co-author Frank Clayton said.
Can any Canadian confirm this?

Kill the nimbys and Toronto will be great
>serious housing crisis
so have the local government expand the city and build new neighbourhoods
more than a half of my city was built between the 50s and the 80s. this is not an unprecedented problem.
The government doesn’t control housing
Tear down parkdale/ the beaches and build high rises there and the housing crisis will be over in three years.
Your country doesn’t have mass immigration. Imagine if all of a sudden 77k more people showed up in your city
You have projects, don't you?
the government openly not caring about them is another issue
uhh that's pretty much how the city grew to twice its size in 20-30 years. mass immigration from surrounding areas.
imagine that in 1 year
You greatly underestimate just how ineffective policy makers are on this shithole of a continent. Moreover, when they try to solve the problem by passing it over to the private sector, it just ends up being ruined by a bunch of greedy jews.
They can’t understand because they don’t have mass migration like us. My city gains like 50k foreigners a year. It’s fucking ridiculous how fast we are expanding. Their countries could never handle it at the rate we are
We must embrace our fundamental transformation by sharing single-family housing with five generations of immigrants living under one roof and mariachi music blasting from the speakers on the roofs of the derelict cars in the front yard.
Welcome to slumworld: Single-family houses converted to ten-unit buildings, being legalized in California, NY, Florida...
owner will be legally allowed to subdivide a single-family house to turn it into small pods

globalists flood of shitskins caused a surge in housing costs. Rent for a one bedroom apartment went from $900 a month to $1100 in a month, Two bedrooms went from $1100 to $1400 and up.
Shit fucking sucks, those shitskins are moving in and living 5 people to a room, now just to afford to rent here us native people must do the same if getting a new place.
The good news is the bi-laws don't allow that many, each dwelling has occupancy limits, so we're calling them in when the overcrowd, then they get evicted because they can't afford the rent anymore.
With globalists welcoming a flood tide of immigrants with open arms, you’re never going to have enough housing
>lets flood White countries with shitskin locusts and blame NIMBY for not having enough houses to shelter the invaders
Why should we support increased development? To give our land and build homes for Zhang and Pajeet? If we enforce zero immigration, first home buyers would have plenty of supply as the older citizens downsize and move to nursing homes. Construction would mostly be renovating existing stock and independent and assisted elderly living and not building 20 story chicken cages in every suburbs.
The Greens are 100% correct to have a NIMBY attitude, it’s a shame they don’t want massive development in their backyard but are ok with having Zhang, Pajeet and Ali living all around them in a 40sqm apartment
try it in relation to city size, seeing as that determines the ability to expand housing at a certain rate. toronto has 2.5 mil. citizens. 77k/year doesn't come close to 'doubling' it. and is not unprecedented in any way.
are you the borderline schizo anti immigrant real estate doomer? i like your posts
flooding the 3rd world in puts upwards pressure on housing stocks
also the migrants need bank loans so it enriches jewish bankers running the mortgage markets
the entire thing is a jew run ponzi scheme to rob the native sons of their birthright
Cost of housing is extremely high for two main reasons.
Immigrants, we should deport all visa workers and illegals and halt all future immigration. There are possibly 60+ million illegals, over a million visa workers, and a bunch of legal immigrants that should have never been allowed in. The 1965 should have deported visa workers and illegals and indefinitely halted all future immigraiton too. It would raise wages across the board too, force employers to treat their employees better, encourage employers to train workers themselves instead of relying on college or trade school, etc.
Immigration numbers are going to keep housing costs exceptionally high, there is no crash incoming considering the booming economy and millions of immigrants per year all needing housing. The us population is expected to grow to 500 million this century, a far larger increase than even the baby boom of the 1950s, there's going to be a massive shortage of ideal property, gaurunteed.
When I was working in Toronto a few years ago, it cost me 800 per month to live in a basement bedroom with 5 other people in the same house that's own by a rich chink. This city is fucked, and in a few more years, you'll be seeing homeless people living in tents like San Francisco. 1 or 2 hr 1-way commute is common, unless you can tolerate sharing a house.
My family just bought a shitty 1600 sqft townhouse on the outskirts of Mississauga for $550k so yeah it's not good.
Shit attracts flies
Toronto is just some shithole global city (brag about "muh diversity" while the middle class gets squeezed).
Only 550k bruh
>blame
race to the bottom. you will be competing with billions of asians (poos inclusive) and you will be forced to adopt their packed living conditions (share a room with 10 ppl)
cost of living will continue to surge and wages will continue to drop
remember, before 2001 open border globalization, a house in NYC, LA, Bay Area was only $150k. not anymore, thanks to the rise of the locusts
>Chinks forcing the world to live under chink squalor
In Beijing, a city of 22 million, just 17,000 units are available for rent. Chinks buy up all property, drive up the prices, and create artificial scarcity. Then renovate the apartments into dorm-like insect spaces to sublet on short-term contracts, usually packing 30 people into a small apartment.
This is wait awaits Whites everywhere as they transform your houses into sardine cans
The Chinks do play a role, but a fuckton of the greedy rich landlords are also Jews.
copy the pastas and shitpost wisely
why arent yall niggas going full RWDS? yall thank da problem will solve itself?
chinks dramatically bring down living standards and increase the cost of living to match the squalor of their locust homeland. their crime is their numbers-- their insane population.
in my city, SF, whites are now forced to live in the same destitution and squalor that these locusts imported.
before the locust invasion, whites lived in single family homes purchased at 2X median income, which was $160k in 2000.
then the locusts swarmed and stole all our houses. now we pay $5million for the same house that was $160k when the city was all White.
now we are forced to live in overcrowded, shared rooms, packed with 20 chinks, just like in honk kong.
the chinks lived like this for eons, but thats their locust lifestyle and Whites never lived liked insects.
the insects are creating an asiatic hive right here in the US and are forcing whites to live in the shitty hive
>RWDS
The free market caused this problem. The right wing is the enemy of the people.
>breakneck population growth outstrips housing
>breakneck population growth
>below replacement fertility levels
if only the globalists stopped importing shitskins and started deporting them, there wouldnt be a housing crisis and homeless epidemic
try a LWDS, NazBol style
The city's earliest developers made it so there's freestanding houses across what are close-to-the-core neighbourhoods. Places like Montreal developed housing on majority 3 story plus apartment buildings in the city proper. What are high use and highly sought out zones have minimum occupation in Toronto, it's a nightmare for urban planning and one reason for so much urban sprawl.
population ponzi scheme maybe, chinks/indians/subsaharan africans breed like crazy but have low numbers and once the economy contracts and property can't get propped up further by selling houses to any immigrant with cash/credit then immigration comes tumbling down, labor or liberal, it'll come down or powers like one nation/degrowth parties gain traction. The higher up politicians I've met are VERY aware of the rapid rise of outlier parties; if you think half the boardroom meetings in LNP/LAB aren't discussing how italy just upended their entire policial spectrum + other countries like sweden/germany/austria/denmark/greece aren't going the same you'd be a retard, they know if immigration keeps going they'll end up out of power. Especially once the economy contracts
>The right wing is the enemy of the people.
Note how he doesn't even deny the dynamics of capitalism and market forces that is a major factor in the housing shortage.
just move to durham region and take the GO train downtown instead of living inside toronto
just don't move to the southern parts, north ajax is pretty safe and cheap
>I pay 400 CAD for a little room in one of the worst neighborhoods of Toronto
At least it includes everything
Basically there are three problems:
1. Liberals zoned a huge swatch of land around GTA as "the green belt" that noone can touch, so developers have to buy existing plots with shit on it, demolish, and then build to make a profit
2. Conservatives are cockblocking/slowing down development of any housing because "muh propery values" of boomer voters.
3. The wealthy both local and foreign buying multiple houses and condos to flip/rent out. This puts a lot of pressure on the margin price of housing, meaning that even professionals can't afford a one-bedroom condo in the north of the city.
Also the job market here is shit, I'm a software developer and getting 65k here is a "good" salary. Prices for anything (gas/food/services) is high cause most things are imported (we're a banana republic that doesn't aknowledge it) and are heavily taxed.
>we shouldn't build more homes because minorities might benefit
Based schizo poster. Love your posts.
>people complain constantly about the lack of housing and insane prices
>people offering solutions from government housing, rent control, mandated affordable units to lower taxes and greater incentives for builders
>nobody stated the obvious problem which is too many people and too many immigrants
I'm not even trying to be anti immigrant here, it's just that simple. They arent making any more land but boy oh boy are they sure trying to cram more and more people into it.
Because this is always the end result of capitalism. A few billionaires living in gated communities and one continual slum occupying the rest of the country. All third world nations are like this. Americans are actually becoming proud of it.
he West is transitioning towards a globalized housing system, to reach the state of housing in BRICS (Brazil, India, and China). This is the basis of creating and keeping housing bubbles.
Contrary to what us naive folks might assume, the really stupendous profits aren't made in luxury buildings--they're generated by tightly packed slums. Here's how it works. Let's say a middle-class flat of 600 square feet (7.5 square meters) goes for $1 per square foot. The slum's equivalent 600 sq. ft. has been cut up into numerous cubbyhole rooms, each housing many people who each pay a relatively high fee for the miserable lodging. The rent per square foot in the slum is thus $5/sq. ft.
According to Davis (and this book is heavily, even obsessively footnoted/sourced), densities in Third World slums are astronomical--18,000 residents per acre is not uncommon. That's four modest-sized 10,000 sq. ft. residential lots in the U.S. suburbs--4 houses that might house 8 people, total, not 18,000.
So slums are immensely profitable--much more profitable than permanent "middle-class" housing. And will you be surprised to learn that most of the property in these mega-city slums is concentrated in a few hands?
The net result of this great urban overcrowding/high-rents/profitability is indeed pernicious.
The Western housing market is in the process of slumification.
At this point the western world has caught up with the turd world, more and more people stay with parents, or have room mates.
Brazil be the endgame of globalism, a truly multicultural, race-mixed dystopia
80% of housing is VACANT in Mexico. They should allow Mexicans to return to Mexico and obtain the shelter they need. That would solve the housing crisis in an instant.
Also The federale governmente owns 50% of the land in the Mexico. They should allow people to develop that Mexican land. That would also solve the housing crisis in an instant.
>it's the housing schizo from Jow Forums episode
Thank fucking christ my parents helped me buy my condo. We should all invest is real estate asap boys.
You voted in the policies that let these millions of people in you fucking retarded millennial. Jesus Christ you people are retarded. You vote in the very people you complain about. And another thing, Socialist candidates only say that they are Socialist so that you will give them your money. Being a Socialist is the greatest get rich quick scheme in politics today.
>real estate
I guarantee he doesn't work real estate
>Implying housing supply will ever be allowed to meet or exceed demand
Top kek, banks will never let that happen.
>You voted in the policies that let these millions of people in
That was the American right-wing supported by capitalism and the free trade.
