Does Duolingo actually offer harder learning content after gaining a crown? So far it's literally been the same thing for 5 straight levels.

In my experience, it goes from making you translate things into your native language to the other way around. On mobile, you will have to type eventually instead of using the fridge magnet words.

The reason American spelling is change is that there was an several efforts to make the spelling more phonetic. Most of the changes weren't adopted, though. When we learn to read we just accept that it's not phonic and grind spelling tests.
