That’s wrong. The separatists started because it was impossible to live there. The Chinese were doing all this so a few people decided to resist. It didn’t work.

That land was uygur for all recent history, and Qing gave them autonomy. Things were even fine under Mao. And then now China went full Han supremacist Nazbol fascism so they began erasing Uygur people using genocide.

From what I understand there are multiple levels to these camps and multiple lengths of times people can go be sent to them. Some of them are just prisons some of them are reeducation camps i.e. schools you are forced to be at. Some people are there for a few days ,some for weeks, some for years. Depends on if people determine that they have been reeducated. Going abroad is one of the things that will get you sent to one for some length of time.
