often when they pikey copper from sites it has plastic coating when it's being used for outdoor fixings. this stuff is much more expensive to produce and buy than naked copper. the plastic is worthless to a scrapper though, and they won't take it because it's not worth their time to properly remove the plastic, and they also have to assume it's stolen.
so the pikeys take the premium coated copper out into the nice countryside somewhere, cover it in petrol and burn it over an hour or more, plumes of black smoke billowing for hours.
copper loses most of it's weight, becomes almost worthless, wasted an entire day you could have been working polluting the environment, burning other peoples money, only sell it for scrap to make enough to buy possibly one smack fix.
