In the 80's technology advanced faster than any other decade. At the beginning of the 80's, you had mostly carbureted v8s with 3 speed automatics. By the end of the 80's you had MANY FWD 4 cylinder platforms that made more power than the v8 of just a few years ago. They had computer controlled fuel injection and spark, which made then turn key reliable. With fuel injection came a lot of turbo engines that could make incredible amounts of power.

In the malise era, engines were choked out due to emissions standards, and the gas crisis. You had a lot of cars that couldn't keep up with, and / or were less reliable than their previous models of the 60's and early 70's.

I rather think 2004-09 was the low ebb. The Big Three were going broke and nothing new was happening. Interiors were crap. The entire era felt like the inside of a 07 Chrysler Sebring.

My grandfather had one of those

End of the 90s-start of the 2000s. Hate the styling from that period.

Those were a thing, they are pretty rare today and hard to keep since the company went bankrupcy

The entire 70s-80s was one long dark winter except for a few supercars.

Last weekend I saw a first-gen Ford Tempo in near mint condition. That is a rare as fuck sight. I don't think I've ever seen one that wasn't falling apart with peeling paint and stuff. Though to be fair I was born in 88 so by the time I'd have been old enough to notice such things, those cars were already 10+ years old.

Usually something like this.
