Yes they did. They used to have Kemalist Village schools in every community/village/town/neighborhood where science, engineering, modernist culture was taught. They used to teach military self defense with guns to men and women, boys and girls.
They were progressing rapidly and to see the product of this age, look at someone like Nobel Prize winner Aziz Sancar or renowned Neurosurgeon Gazi Yasargil... both the direct product of Kemalist revolution, from dirt poor families to world renowned scientists.
