Why is this show so popular internationally? I don't understand how most of the humour translates if you don't live here

I mean particularly in other languages, I believe it's dubbed or subtitled in other countries unless it's just for an english audience. a good half of the humour are vernacular I don't understand how you translate that

Your humor is not so specific or complex or even unique, so it's easy for foreigners to get it. Same goes for the US. Still a great show, on par with the British comedy shows.

it's a character driven situational comedy and most of the world is already familiar with american comedy and it was released when mockumentaries were still a relatively fresh genre

I watched it in vo, I couldn't really tell you how it is dubbed
I guess the humour might be derived from the characters and the situations they find themselves in, with some of the details lost in translation

It's a mockumentary but it's entirely accurate. everybody who lives in rural canada knows people like that, I guess it's funny here because it's relevant and it's funny elsewhere because it's absurd.

I have heard that the Simpsons is really funny in Spanish and IIRC they rewrite the jokes that don't translate well, I think it might be the same for other shows.

I think the same is true for every tv shows, like watching the Sopranos while living in New Jersey.

I'm familiar enough with North American culture to find it entertaining. It also had a indie feel which made it unpredictable and interesting.
The characters all show very relatable traits even if it's in a different culture.
other canadian TV series ive enjoyed are 'Kids in the Hall' and one about (forgot name) video game developers, chinese mafia and the leads mother growing weed.

People swearing and drinking and committing stupid crimes is universally funny, but I do agree that there are regional aspects of this show that go over the heads of many viewers. I would go even further and say that this is specifically an Atlantic Canadian show and that even other Canadians who have never lived out this way don't truly "get" TPB

Massive TPB fan. The show is totally relatable to kiwi/ aussie bogans. It’s got some really memorable characters, it’s light hearted, and some hilarious antics I’ve bursted out laughing. S1-7 was great, but the new stuff on Netflix seemed forced and tired.
