Japanese food is flavorless and uninventive. (Ramen being the exception of course, although, it it trumped by MANY Chinese soups.)

I honestly don't know much about Chinese food. It's a big place and I get a severely Americanized version of a single region. Can any Zhangs recommend me anything?

there is a nice, supposedly authentic, chinese place near my uni that sells some crispy fried sichuan chicken that blows any japanese dish ive had out of the water. Katsu was meh, dont like seafood so dont like sushi, and somehow thought the authentic ramen i had nearby was worse than the microwave ramens kek, although i think i just ordered a strange ramen but it was disappointing as a weeb at that time

I spent almost a year in China, best food I ever had in my life. Your westernized versions of chinese food can't even compare. Also, the atmosphere of where you eat changes your experience drastically. I ate next to literal sewage dumps, and it tasted better than anything I've had here or anywhere else still.

Cantonese food are mostly fresh, and notorious because they are rumored to eat anything that walks, flies, or swims, there's a running gag on china nets that Cantonese people eat humans too, mainly hokkiens. Northern eat oily large-portion food, also they don't eat rice. Personally I perfer korean food over japanese food.

If you go to an authentic chinese restaurant, get either some pork belly, duck, beef or octopus. Seafood is kinda meh, and they never cook with chicken so I would stay away from that too
