Any German-speaking anons pls weigh in

Alright, to make a long story short, I fell in love with a German exchange student and I need to move to germany to be able to date her. Is it possible to learn sufficcient german in ~8-9 months? I've been using duolingo for the past month or two, and i feel like i'm making okay progress with that; or is that just me being naive?
I can give details on my situation if need be

sufficient to go in for undergraduate courses/ have a job

duolingo alone isnt enough. you gotta start watching documentaries and lets plays and movies in german and write down the vocabulary you dont know down.
What this man says is mostly true, but there are parts of Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern were German will come in handy. Also people will treat you far better if you try and speak some German.

You wont' seduce me Austrian and even your Slavic ancestry won't save you from my yikes G*rmanoid-lite

where not were

alright, any reccomendations to start?
I'm basically at tourist-level german right now, i can yell for help and call lamps interesting (if that helps at all)

yeah I mean if you work hard for 8-9 months that should be enough. there are lots of things in German that are hard to learn but not really necessary for being understood, like the cases, you won't get these perfectly (many Germans don't either) but that's not a tragedy.
