that's pretty stupid though. Pakis get pushed for academic achievement just like Indians. It's just that it's a smaller country. I remember hearing from a Pakistani guy online from Facebook how there's a lot of pressure to get into NUST/Quaid-i-Azam University.

I think the major problem there is they don't have a channel by their government, similar to India in the 80s and 90s. JEE pretty much standardized admissions in engineering colleges in India and introduced competition.

also I met lots of Afghan and Nepali students during JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation, basically counselling to choose your university as per your JEE score)
