All three service chiefs were British. Some 892 of the warships were British, as were two-thirds of the air forces and two-thirds of the men landed. More than three-quarters of the landing craft were also British, while 31 per cent of all supplies of the US Army based in Britain and heading to Normandy were provided by, you guessed it, the British.
