Pretty obvious where the name "Holland" comes from then. It means "island" just like Olland and Alland in Scandinavia. Holland provinces basically was an island in the middle ages and before.
Wikipêdia mutters something about the origin of the name being unknown, possibly from "houtland" whilst obviously the association with woodlands and forests in that place is rather far-fetched.
