Biking to work takes me 16 minutes most days.
Driving (I have to drive on Thursdays) usually takes 28 minutes. Sometimes 40+.
So, at least here in my city it's faster to go by bicycle than by car.

Me and my wife both cycle now instead of driving. To and from work, grocery shopping, adventures outside of town. We always use bikes.
We sold our car about 4 years ago since it just kept draining our bank accounts with gas, parking, maintenance and all that. First month without a car was hell but then we got used to it. Now we would never go back.

It's true that they are a bit colder than here. Coldest I've biked to work in was -26C but it wasn't unpleasant once I got going. It doesn't ever get colder than in Trondheim.
