But most of the world has gun control, and there is no correlation at the national level between crime and gun laws and/or gun ownership rates. A much better experimental design would be to follow a population over time, and see what a change in gun laws does to the trend. Kennessaw, GA made it a legal requirement for heads of households to own a gun in 81. What followed? The property crime rate dropped 80% in 10 years, violent crime also fell drastically.

A much better experimental design would be to have two identical groups, ban guns in one group, and free guns for everyone in the other, and see where they go. And guess what happens when you compare Kennessaw GA to other medium size cities in Georgia during the same period? Statistically insignificant differences in change.

If at a macro level there is 0 good evidence that gun ccontrol has any effect on crime or death rates, and at a micro level having a gun makes you safer in violent confrontations (it is, by far the best option, much better than using fists, running away, and offering no resistance), and is a qualitative liberty, I see no way to justify banning guns.

Of course this is much too much honesty and attempt at scientific evidence than you are used to, and I fully expect low IQ responses with more cherry picking etc

The growth of the economy and funding for academic and corporate science is the main consideration--I would predict that seriously stunting the economy with the green new deal, for example, would cause us to be worse off in the long run to be able to fight climate change and transition off of oil, because of compounding growth (it is more efficient to buy 1.2 solar panels in 5 years from now than 1 solar panel right now), high future gains in tech (it is more efficient to buy future tech than current with the same amount of money), and ~100 years before prices become a problem (with current reserves--more will doubtless be found)
