They have these youth cultures with a sort of outward appearance of "uniqueness" tied into its overall conformity, a workaholic job environment. Remember, most countries in Asia have only experienced a mere few decades of prosperity before being pulled out of miserable poverty and warfare, so therefore they are, for the most part, following in the footsteps of Americans and Europeans who experienced the same kind of conditions generations earlier, just with a little bit of an Asian spiciness to cater to local tastes.
