Englishman here. Spent like 8 weeks in Barbados for rehab. I got to experience and see a lot of the island in that time and spoke with a lot of people. The thing I wasn't expecting is that it felt really familiar. The Bajan accent sounds like it comes from Cornwall/Devon/Somerset. Not at all like the Jamaican accent. Sure enough, after some research, I found out out that most of the original settlers of Barbados sailed from Bristol.
I also went to a pre-Christmas service at the Bridgetown cathedral. I was really moved by how familiar it all felt. (I'm a high Anglican). It wa exactly like the services I experienced at school in Westminster Abbey.
In all, I found Barbados to be a beautiful country, more so than Britain in some ways. I will return there shortly I'm sure
