actually Italy is controlled by the church as well, in some ways a lot more than other countries. Priests and church officials have a de facto penal immunity, all assets are tax free and the italian government has no jurisdiction of any kind over the vatican. If anything we're worse off than the rest of the world when it comes to religious influence. still nowhere near US standards tho, you guys are on a whole different plane of religious hysteria.

You kill the current elite, the revolutionaries of today will become the new elite and the new ruling class, estabilishing their new families as the dominant ones instead.

If you kill the ruler there's always going to be a section of the population that doesn't approve and is left angry and dissatisfied, which will eventually start the next revolution.
The only thing we can do is complain, and i think it can be productive in the long term. With social mobility and public shaming of bad political choices getting more and more common the mere fact that people are aware of what the problems are puts the ruling class in a position to have to appease the population, which is slowly introducing itself in the per echelons of society, exposing more and more of the elite to the complaints.
With time i think/hope that we'll just get "better" at implementing democratic ideals.
