And they were given the power to make special laws for people of any race except aboriginals, which meant that the power to make special laws for aboriginals was left to each individual state. That exclusion was repealed in the 1967 referendum, so now the federal parliament can make special laws for anyone. Also, s127 said that aboriginals were to be excluded from population counts. That was also repealed in 1967.

Here in the US there are essentially no pure natives left so we have a lot of that. Also many tribes never bothered with muh genetics anyways and will consider you a native if another native recognizes you as such. It's a very strange situation.

I was up in the countryside a while back and was visiting an old station run by the blacks out there. There's a camp programme for troubled youths that runs in the nearby bush and the people on the station help out with some of it because they know the area. Anyway the fellow I was talking to expressed the view that all Aboriginal kids should be forced to live on the lands and engage in traditional practices, to stop them from becoming useless drunk bastards.

I think he has a good point but I don't think it's just an Aboriginal issue. I bet most White Australian youths would have better morals, better character, better behaviour, etc., if they were forced to learn and participate in traditional practices (Australian traditions, Christian traditions, Anglo-Saxon traditions, Western traditions, whatever you want to call them).
