Brazilians whites are truly something. You have immigrants here who are pardos and say they are white. And at the same time you have actual white Brazilians too who immigrate. Yet pardos think they are white. Weird desu.
> despite only 18% having some European great-great-grandfather
two things to keep in mind:
1. just because they can't point an european ancestor doesn't mean they don't have one. Great-great-grandfather means 150 years ago. Most people didn't keep record of how many portuguese people they had in their family tree 150 years ago.
2. Half of white americans/canadians don't have an european great-great-grandfather either. Just because they've been here for longer, doesn't mean they're not white.
Now, I'm not saying all these "white brazilians" are white, and I usually interpret having a portuguese surname as having mixed heritage, but saying people aren't white just because they can't point the last immigrant ancestor they had is retarded.
“The legal notion of hypodescent [one-drop-rule] has been upheld as recently as 1985, when a Louisiana court ruled that a woman with a black great-great-great-great-grandmother could not identify herself as “white” on her passport.” (Bradt, 2010)
Was not Portuguese, was an immigrant and he faked the attack, ask any Pole here.
