My teacher talked one day about it during world war 2 and then asked us to watch a documentary then the holocaust was citated

My 8th grade teacher was literally a jew, and she didn't even do that. The most she did was show us Schindler's List and have two classes in a row about the Holocaust. Once that was done we moved on to Juno Beach.
Unrelated, but a kid made a swastika in the snow once.

sorta I guess? atleast in my first year of middle school we had like a week full of holocaust stuff and a auswitz survivor came to give a talk. Also visited a concentration camp.

Really? We just skimmed over the Cold War in a few weeks. Only talked about Korea, Vietnam, and Suez. Didn't even get to the 70s.

Just became a teacher, and this is now basically all Canadian middle/high school social studies classes, except instead of Jews and the Holocaust, it's First Nations people and the Residential Schools / Treaties.

I shit you not, every year the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Council) demands that we teach more and more First Nations classes and draw more distinct connections from Canadian Identity to First Nations Identity, and to focus less and less on the colonization of the country.

I mean, WW2 killed millions of Asians as well. The Holocaust was even and brutal and needs to be remembered, but Slavs lost 20 million people and Asians almost as much. The West has an obsession with the holocaust, but ignores or downplays the atrocities that also happened to other groups who weren't part of the Occident.

In my country people think holocaust is some jewish holiday.
