>sister is average with mostly C's and B's in high school >College is too hard so she goes to a two year nursing program at a community college. >finishes with no debt >I attend a top 50 ranked school for civil engineering >graduate with $30,000 debt
>her starting salary was $65,000 >my starting salary is $70,000
Tell me again how college is totally not a useless pile of shit.
At least as an engineer you can have self-respect, higher earnings ceiling also since you can start businesses/do consulting
Caleb Bailey
my aunt has been a nurse for like 15 years and makes $130k because she works at a hospital in the middle of nowhere wyoming.
Michael Carter
Adding to this, your job can be more fulfilling and the knowledge you gain can make you millions down the road if used right.
In her case, she’s sweating it up walking around helping old fat boomers and kids all day in a hospital. I feel you though.
>chemE
Jeremiah Rodriguez
you get to hang out and do interesting stuff once in awhile, she wipes old fat people asses. try to remember that when you and your coworkers leave early for the next happy hour.
Kayden Rogers
College is a cult.
What happens now is that you tell everyone they need to go to college, you become a college shill just like the other fuckwits who can't think for themselves for two reasons:
1 - if you admit college was a waste of time and money then then you look like an idiot to people who did not go to college and don't know what you are talking about. They assume what you did before you went. You will also be ridiculed by others in the cult.
2 - if you admit that college was a waste of time and you could have achieved the same thing with mostly on the job training then employers will begin to hire people who are self taught and better skilled than you, they will not hire you because you payed lots of money and wasted time on useless units for a piece of paper.
Now go back to work. Maybe you can guide your children to think for themselves like you failed to.
>t. I have a bachelors degree
Bentley Ramirez
You’re the one who was dumb enough to sign up for it. If what you cared about was money you chose the wrong path. If you love engineering then you made the right decision.
Cameron Perez
70000 starting
Where do you work OP? Are you doing actual construction jobs or things like building design?
Jordan Long
I used to work healthcare IT, and lemme tell ya: being a nurse sucks balls. Imagine being stuck in a small room with a morbidly obese couple who haven't bathed in a week. Sometimes they make good money, but they deserve it for the shit (literal and figuratively) that they deal with on a daily basis.
Jordan Parker
I'm 24 and make 100k without any college
Charles Wood
you can start a business without a degree wtf lol. Since when do you need a degree to make millions? You just need to be an opportunist
Hunter White
Cult brainlets.
You can start a personal training or a fucking cupcake business and blow these brainlets out of the water charging 50 bucks per head for a 1hr class teaching 12 people
Jaxon Wood
>if you do what you love you'll never work a day in your life
Do people actually still believe this bullshit? I love to sit on my ass and jerk off all day, but even that gets boring. You can't be forced to do something 40 hours a week every week for year after year and still love it.
Follow the money. Always and forever.
Ethan Bell
3. because you're not retarded you realize that a good GPA at a decent college in a non-retarded major is basically a aptitude test for employers and if you can pass, you're going to be fine forever.
t. BSc is MIS making $200k/year that hires kids at career fairs
Zachary Howard
>Cult brainlets i make more than you do tho
Jordan Williams
No bro haven't you heard. If you don't go to school for Entrepreneurship your business will 100% fail.
Dylan Parker
nurses are a pretty respectable job, but they have to deal with a lot of shit (both literally and figuratively)
Noah Long
I develop plans for design and construction of public works projects for a city near LA
Matthew Reed
Are you autistic?
Grayson Torres
Lol. I forgot these retards cant think for themselves so they need a degree to tell them its ok to make something. What a stupid mindset. I'm a college student saying this as well lmao
Cameron Bell
and all the money she makes off the books too. nah i'm sayin'
Jose Barnes
On a scale of 10 to 10 how autistic are you?
Adam Jenkins
Nurses have respectable jobs, but holy SHIT their jobs are high-stress. My aunt is a nurse and she's had to come in for 60 hour weeks regularly for a while.
Not to mention in order to increase your earnings potential as a nurse you pretty much have to get higher degrees (BSN, masters, etc), leading to even more debt.
Shit kinda sucks right now OP but I guarantee your day-to-day stress is lower than a majority of nurses out there, and your earnings potential will be much higher down the line. Hell, lots of engineering firms i know actually pay for their employees' masters.
Daniel Cox
Why are white girls such degenerates? They all seemed to want to get back at their parents at my university.
nurses are in higher demand than engineers you fucking pleb
Juan Fisher
>BSc is MIS making $200k/year that hires kids at career fairs What?
Carson Rogers
Also higher earning ceiling for you, plus maybe you shouldve graduated without debt
Cameron Carter
bachelor of science in management information systems sm᠌h
Oliver Stewart
> engineer: cushy office job where you hide in a cubicle and only really have to work 2 hours/day > nurse: back-breaking work supporting dozens of other people while you work 12-hour shifts
God you people are moronic. College is not for everyone. But with that being said those who do decide to go do gain some valuable knowledge, skills, networking and access to a specific career field they would not be able to enter otherwise. Is this worth the price that you pay? Absolutely not. College should be run like a trade school. You enter your major emmediately and thats it. No more beating around the bush to sqeeze out more money by requiring students to take bullshit courses and then claiming its because the schools want "well rounded individuals". The price and length required for a bachelors is absurd. But with that being said the REAL value of a degree is not the emmediate salary right out of school but the potential salaries to be made later on in your career and the new opportunites that open up because of you having a degree. All of these fucks in the comments spewing random bullshit claiming they can get the same positions and run the same companies as someone with a degree are delusional. Entrepreneur or not there are a plethora of fields and positions that you will never be able to operate in without a degree no matter how intellectual you may claim to be. And those businesses and positions that you will never be a part of are the most lucrative.
Evan Ward
>top 50 ranked for a specific major
Lmao so you’re a dumbass
Evan Young
>$200k/year
yeah no or link to a job posting that says this
Lucas Myers
Why do you know your sisters breast size?
Easton Parker
lol someone is in debt. Sure college is necessary if you want to keep advancing in your career path but if you actually want to get rich you dont need it.
Nathan Wright
you do realize universities have rankings based on specific majors? And a top 50 engineering school is respectable.
Connor Allen
Where can I order this shirt for my gf
Zachary Thomas
my company isn't posting my job on public hiring websites.
Lol thankfully im not in debt at all bud. And as far as getting rich goes, by deciding not to attend school you sure do limit your odds of ending up rich. Sure it is possible to do so but those individuals are farther and fewer in between than those who do get a degree
Jordan Taylor
You'd be surprised how many people go to college so they "know how to make a business."
Josiah Collins
considering some of the richest people on this earth never finished college I'd say college should just be a backup plan if you cant make it for whatever reason. If you truly make it you'll probably never use that degree and I know I probably wont use mine but I'm studying anyway because I can afford it. If you need a degree to get a certain job chances are that job isnt gonna make you wealthy.
Hudson Thomas
Went for a Business Admin course a community college like a fucking brainlet and learned nothing. Dropped out after 1 year and have been somewhat been making my way. Having a hard time finding customers though.
Chase Long
>Tell me again how college is totally not a useless pile of shit.
Can't really argue it isn't so. But, nursing is the biggest scam and a complete joke in the US, along with the so called "healthcare" scam.
John Richardson
I guarantee nursing is harder than some bullshit meme engi degree. I got my associates last year, Working 5 days a week and I have a six figure salary. In February I'll be transferring jobs again, same pay but only 4 days a week. Of course by then I'm good and used to 5 days so might as well pick up an extra shift each week for another 26k/yr.
Higher education is very useful. Without it, you guys would be making 40k instead of 70k.
You just fell into the trap of paying extra for a so-called “prestigious” university. THAT is the useless pile of shit. State school education is literally just as good as State school education is literally just as good as private university.
Noah Campbell
This. They deserve every cent of their salary because their line of work is soul crushing. ANYONE can become a nurse, but you have to be pretty desperate to accept that role
Eli Torres
Oh believe me i know there are a good amount of very wealthy individuals that never went to school. All i'm saying is that they are very very far and few in between relative to the total amount of people who choose not to go. Not saying that of you get a degree you are guaranteed to become rich but it sure does help your odds and like i said give you more opportunities. Me personally i know what i want to do and i have to get a degree in order to pursue it. There is no way around it.
Josiah Sanders
i think most of us agree with you, we just don't to do the stuff you do if we can help it
Connor Harris
Nursing is indeed lame as fuck. You’re constantly taking care of people that cause their own problems.
Smokers with emphysema that won’t quit smoking. Fattys with heart disease that won’t quit eating junk food. Retards who don’t finish their antibiotics and keep getting infections. Junkies who complain about “back pain” just to get a shitty Vicodin prescription.
It sucks.
Nathaniel Morgan
It is and once you realize that nurses make 30-40k in Canada and 20-35k in the UK, you get "teh rage"
Gabriel Sanders
Are you saying community college isn't college? You both went to college and found successful careers.
Plenty of people fail the first time they go to college and then re-enter and do well like your sister did.
Civil engineering is very dependent of government dollars and the overall economy. Only in the last 3 years it has the job market been doing well as local/state/federal governments increase infrastructure spending and companies feel confident to spend on stuff such as new buildings/housing. Average age of a nurse is like 52 so there's a lot of demand to replace an aging workforce.
Learn to read markets fagot and you'll understand wage differences.

My BS in engineering (which I got almost for free) landed me a job where I sit at a desk and draw air conditioning ducts until I have enough saved up to retire. If it weren't a condition on my mom's inheritance, I would consider it a complete waste of time.
William Scott
I am a thirld world guy that had been tortured, spanked and bypassed many shit.
Just give me a direction of what I could do to win 2k usd/month;
I'm actually doing electrical engineering and computer engineering and I live in a thirld world country.
Alexander Moore
Sounds like you need to college and learn how to format text correctly.
>if you need a degree to become a doctor or financial advisor or lawyer chances are being a doctor or financial advisor or lawyer won't make you rich lol okay
Carson Bell
Should have studied computer science.
Julian Rivera
Whoosh, Jesus that joke went way over your head . But since you don't know any better i'm sorry i forgot how important proper formatting is on a Jow Forums board lol. If your only rebuttal is to criticize a post not intended for you and send me that number then i guess the winner of this debate/discussion ( if you can even call it that considering how far off topic you went) is clear cut. Check mate bud.
Landon Hughes
Try again faggot. I have a Bachelor of Commerce, Info Sys, and work as a Solution Architect after getting bored with dev work. 200k is great desu but you are not making more than I am. I did not need this degree, I just needed to show aptitude in software dev and machine learning, both of which my degree did not provide. Universities are a business and as suck they will fuck you every chance they get. Our best devs are self taught on udemy. Our best PM's and BA's have experience not degrees.
Brody Mitchell
>financial advisor they are usually poor lmao >lawyer not all lawyers are rich. not even close Who told you they are? >doctor congrats you found one example vs the 1000s of others
Isaiah Hall
I thought I would hate it, but the money drew me in. I actually get a sick sense of pleasure from some of the fucked up shit I see. I had an alcoholic withdrawing, fresh new butthole moved to his belly, he is shitting in a bag. He gets sick of it and decided to rip it off. Bag gone but he's not satisfied, he rips the part of his gut sticking out off too. A good trauma patient is better than any rekt thread. Then there are the code blues. When it's boring you shitpost on phone, when it's exciting it's very exciting.
That's some real bullshit, I guess it's the social medicine driving down wages to almost nothing. Move to Burgerstan, we have a shortage. If pajeet codemonkey can immigrate for some fluff nonsense job then surely nurses can get in. The filipinos are doing it.
Online dating, marry and move to 1st world. All I could think of off top of my head. When I was looking at careers I only considered how much freedom it offers, how much it pays, and how long/expensive schooling was. Nurse can go anywhere and always find a job,12 hour shifts so great hours. Pay varies and kind of sucks fulltime, my first job gave me $24/hr base, +$8/hr doing night and weekend. Go part time or through an agency and for same exact job in same exact hospital it's over $40/hr, conniving little shits but you just have to outjew them. School is two years and 15k, plus another 10k and one year for bachelors degree. In your case engineering sounds smart. Possible to expat even without marriage.
