>Be me.
>Buy 50 contracts long on Bitmex with 50x leverage.
>Bought 50 contracts @6073 then sold @6290.
Here I thought "I've bought 50 contracts with 50x leverage, so, 50x50=2500$, I should earn a couple of dollars".
>Wrong.
>I've literally didn't even earned 1 dollar, it was about 67 cents.
What the fuck? I don't understand how this shit works, it's supposed to be like this? I don't know how to trade on Bitmex... help me anons.
Be me
You bought 50 contracts with 50x leverage, so you spent 1$ worth of btc to buy 50 contracts worth 50$.
you made 67% on your initial (1$).
Ohhhhh, I thought the higher the leverage the more gains I would make, so it's the inverse, the best leverage to use when I know how the market will move is 1x.
Thanks anons.
wait what? can someone explain this all in immense detail?
contract size is the size of the contract, how much you are buying 50 is 50 and 2500 is 2500
leverage determines how much you put up for margin
so if you buy 50 contracts at 50x, your margin is only $1 worth of btc.
Exactly
see, you're getting it!
lmfao
this is why i know some of us will make it
no, 5000 contracts at 50x leverage would be much better than 1x leverage you tard
Faggots you're trying to confuse me.
Sorry, even if you know how to trade on Bitmex you can't make it, because only chads that can predict market movement and make accordingly trades will prevail.
It will be a matter of time for me to learn how to trade on Bitmex by myself, right now I'm doing small trades just to test, because you faggots don't want to tell me how to trade with Bitmex.
I could try but it's like someone saying the moon is made of cheese, I don't even know how to start, I hope he's on a testnet.
this
dude do yourself a favor and read with attention XBT Guide on bitmex (the big blue button above the chart).
Also play with the testnet before putting in real btc
Isolated margin lowers your risk, divides your position with the leverage you are taking...try testnet first retard.
>Example: if we are talking about standard trading, leverage 1:1, the liquidation value is when the position reaches a value of zero. As the leverage increases, the liquidation value will get closer to our buying price. For example, Bitcoin value is $1,000, we bought one Bitcoin (long) with leverage of 2:1. The cost of our position is 1000 USD, in addition we borrowed 1000 more USD. The liquidation value of our position will be a little over 500 USD – because at that level we lose exactly our initial 1000 USD plus interest and fees. Margin trading can also be against the market, we can also short position with leverage.
>Bitcoin is @ 5000$.
I buy one Bitcoin (long) 2:1 @ 1000$
>Bitcoin goes to 5500$.
How much did I make selling it @ 5500$?
top tier bait bro
if you wanna play around with 50$:
going 10x you will need to put in 500 contracts
going 50x you will need to put in 2500 contracts
protip: go long 25x
It's not bait, I really don't know wtf I'm doing, but whatever I do I'm destined to win, so fuck it, eventually I will understand this shit.
And no, I'm not on testnet, that's for betafags.
If Bitcoin is being sold at 5K, you may have trouble buying one at 1K. Where you place orders on bitmex, there's a cute calculator icon and you can mess with your entries, leverage and profits and all that shit.
Please, please, testnet.
testnet really is for betafags tho, i never tried it
That was a typo, of course that btc would have to be bought at 5k
Bout tree fiddy
Everyone's free, but without understanding what you're trading, what's leverage, the interface... it feels like playing with fire.
Fair, I just didn't know if you were attempting some strange leverage maths.
second part for
contract size is how much $ worth of btc you are buying
leverage determines how much of your own funds you put up for the trade
buy 5000 contracts for that 1 $5000 btc
use 50x leverage
$100 worth of your own btc is put up for the position. use 1x leverage and you put up $5000 worth of btc. 10x is $500 etc
Ok, but then what's the advantage of using 1x then?
By that analysis, in my PoV it makes sense to leverage 1x.
typo again: it makes *no* sense
