HDI of Central Europe by regions

Why is Hungary so underdeveloped compared to other Central EU countries?

because orban

Why is Croatia not in Central Europe?

Isn't Orban popular cuz his politics have improved the life of average middle-class Hungarian?

Croatia is balcon
Slovenia is mittel evropa

Trianon and commies.

It looks like he didn't do much. During commie times Hungary was quite well off. Not so much nowadays.

Everyone in the region was communist except Austria.

If not trianon Slovakia and Slovenia would be like Hungary. The proof that Trianon was needed.

its called eastern europe you sl*V(e) subhuman

Did Poland take a much different path? I don't think so, your politics are comparable to politics of Hungary, at least it seems so. Was your industry less damaged by the privatisation or what?

It is in Balkans in terms of geography but that doesn’t negate its cultural and historical Central European-ness

Last years of commie times in Poland were so bad that literally lots of people saw drastic improvement in lifes, not because Poland took different path just because communism in Poland was so shite, so it naturally rebounced.

Hungary kind of loves to lick Russia for some reason.

Apparently 2008 hit Hungary pretty badly too (source:couple magyars i know) while it had near to no impact here

They are living in on our wealth))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Also Poland must be burned and partitioned))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Yes, but until 2010, commies were charge of Hungary. In 1989 they replaced Moscow with Washington. Started to worship Neo-liberalism, they preached it as the holy gospel. They sold everything between 90-10. For some reason their neoliberal economics caused us to be poorer than Romania.

Please, consider the following...

>driving home to Brno after a week of hard work sitting in an office in Prague
>car breaks down mid way due to shitty shape of D1
>leave the car and look for help
>wolves tear you apart
>locals find your body and keep your wallet
>repeat
>Vysočina is now more rich than average

Also what I forgot to mention, I've been to Hungary multiple times and it seems very centered in Budapest, almost city state tier, all the highways and national railroads lead to Budapest, its like 15x bigger than the 2nd biggest city, so it makes perfect sense that its the most development part

The beauty of natural selection.

But still, the HDI of Budapest region is lower than HDIs of other capital regions on the map.

You have to understand that after 1956 the communist party changed tactics. The hard liners were removed and moderates were put in charge then small liberties were allowed + huge social security. Free housing, free schools, two weeks of holiday. It was extremely expensive and the economy started to crumble in the 70s, to keep the system rolling the state take out huge loans from Westerners. At this point the state was in a bad shape, but recovery was still possible. People fucking loved Kádár, if you didn't advocate against the commies you had a nice life. So as to said in the 90s neo-liberals took over. Hungarian leftists hate Hungary. No joke they fucking hate it. Their mantra was "the state is a bad owner, we should sell everything". Note that the Czechs and Poles didn't sell everything. The 90s here were compared to the Yeltsin era. Millions lost their jobs. State owned factories were dismantled and sold for scraps. Note our pharmacy and engineering is still top notch and we could have based our economy on food production, engineering and chemistry. Thanks to some austerity policies of a socialist government and the first Orbán government the future looked bright. Then socialists were so pover hungry that they campaigned with restoration of the Kádár welfare in 2002. They called it the Hundred Days program. They doubled the wages of state employees. They introduced the 13th month pension and they doubled down on the privatisation. Joining the EU fucked us over big time. Our agriculture died. (Couldn't compete with Westerners and muh EU quotas.) In 2006 the sitting Neo-liberal Socialist coalition even faked the numbers and presented a false a budget. They also encouraged taking out loans in CHF. Then 2006 autumn someone leaked a confession rant by the PM about how they cheated and fucked up. Then 2008 hit. CHF loans skyrocketed. In 2010 Orbán got his 2/3rds he used his power to oust leftards from key positions.

Although Hungary was always Budapest centred Trianon took its toll on the infrastructure. We still haven't built a new autobahn that goes in a circle avoiding Budapest. Note that huge cities like Bratislava, Kosice, Arad, Cluj Timisoara or even Zagreb are not in our country. These could have acted as a counter balance to Budapest. Look at Cluj now for example. It's basically a second capital in Romania countering Bucharest. Only developing city we have now is Szeged. Budapest brutally drains the rural areas and wages are like double there compared to the rest of the country.

>the state is a bad owner, we should sell everything
the same thing happened in Poland. Google Leszek Balcerowicz

some people truly adore him. lol

>Czechs and Poles didn't sell everything
Poles? Absolutely false. Our country is a banana republic.

we sell everything too

the state just own electricity company cez and one brewery

>only if you knew how bad things really are

You sold like 50th percent, we sold like 80%.

Hungarians should have stayed in the steppes.

I didn't know most of Hungary is less developed than Transylvania

By 1995 90% of the public companies were sold, the most fast and rampant transformation out of any country.

Well they are poor af it’s just it’s cleaner. I lived there for years.

I'm gonna say that it's that barking Hungarian language that's to blame that the Hungarians never became quite civilized (they used to speak Latin with foreigners in the days of the Habsburgs which is why they were civilized then). Orban, poverty, it can all be attributed to the barbaric way in which they vocalize.
