Do you know dummy nouns in Japanese Grammar?
e. g. こと、とき、ところ
Japanese does not have Relatives like "that" or "which".
We use 連体形 the abdominal form of verbs and 形式名詞 the dummy nouns (formal nouns) instead of them.
That "の" is a special particle used instead of dummy nouns, which attaches to a phrase and acts on the whole phrase.
幸子は姉に日記を読まれるのを聞いた=幸子は姉が日記を読んでいるところを聞いた : Yukiko has known ( by hearing ) that her sister was reading her diary

I think so - if I'm understanding this correctly "を(読まれる)の(聞いた) and ところ both work to isolate the initial phrase (幸子は姉に日記を読まれる) to be "acted on" by the subject and final verb, (幸子は phrase を 聞いた,)essentially turning it into something akin to an object/noun.

Am I understanding this correctly? If you have the time, would you mind providing an example or two?

ただし、英語でもそうですが、対格は、名詞または名詞相当語句しかなることができない。従って、名詞節 noun clauseをつくるthatと同じ働きを、その「の｣はしています。一般に、準体助詞｢の｣は形式名詞｢こと( the thing which / what )と置き換え可能ですが、この場合は、形式名詞｢ところ ( the place where / the time when / [ the way ] how に近い用法を持つ )でないと置き換えるこてができず、かつ、｢ところ｣を修飾する節の中が進行形の｢ている｣aspectとなることを見てほしいと思います。

His posts were very disgusting and insistent.
He ruined this thread with a Polish poster who was hate by many Japanese posters in this thread.
He said "I'll come here again"
You might notice Japanese became cold to Brazilian posters after that.

In the case of the example sentence, we can replace it with the clause by using the dummy noun ところ.
In that clause, you may find the progressive aspect is used.

thanks frens, I don't know Japanese but I know french and most Japanese media is 90% guaranteed to be translated to french. There's is this book by 夢野 久作, which is only translated in french, for example. I read Taketori Monogatari, but I didn't knew it was a classic, I thought it was more recent.
