Hiya Jow Forums I just recently turned 18 not too long ago. I came to the conclusion that I need to gain as much knowledge and understanding of finances and managing money as quickly as possible if I want to not just survive but be successful. If you were 18 and about to start your senior year of high school what financial/business advice would you give yourself. As well as just advice for success in general. If you want to know anything more in specific detail please just ask and I'll tell if I can.

you don't need to worry about finances until you start making significant money.
learn to budget your expenses and manage your time first.
also this board is 95% shills and scams
hmm alright, I don't want to end up like a lot of people I see though. Even my parents. And if I do the same thing as everyone else I'll end up the same.
Dont go to college.
Why not? Are you really gonna tell me I can make a equally large amount of money without a degree. I don't like the current system but it's not something I can choose to just live outside of because of that dislike. To make any sort of money you need a degree to at least get into a industry. Else wise you'll work making minimum wage and barely surviving. Unless you're VERY lucky.
18 yo here as well. I realised what you realised when I was around 16. Started reading a tonne of books on finance. Mainly Taleb's stuff. Got lucky and read some shit about bitcoin in one of those "get rich quick" ads and started looking into it then bought shortly after. Had $600k ATH and dropped out in April. Now I have $100k... Dont fall for the "university is a meme" meme. I wish I stayed in school so I could study CS at a more advanced level.
Realize that nearly everything you spend your money on you don't need to spend money on.
Also realize that jobs should be used as a tool to keep moving forward. If you find yourself working paycheck to paycheck with no break. Stop spending money on stupid things.
It doesn't take a long time to save up for investment. Just do it. Be content. Use each job to reach another. And never turn down opportunity
Ah I wish I had wised up at 16 as well. Good on you user. I'll try looking up Taleb. And if you have 100K then why don't you go to college and pursue CS?
the largest problem people have with money is that they can't budget past their next pay check. learning to live within your means and saving an appropriate amount for the future is half of the battle. yeah how to manage your investments is important but that doesn't matter if you can't get money into that fund in the first place.

this is what you're looking at when you are investing. but it can take a while to get through you time is better spent of your studies
again, this board is basically at the same level as Jow Forums
Good advice. I rarely spend much money to be honest. But then again most of my needs are provided for. I realize that eventually it will become a problem.
I know most of my focus should be on my studies. While I hope to invest heavily some day and eventually reach a state of passive income I know that's a long way coming. But I still want to be as smart as I can now and be prepared when the time comes. While I may not have much experience budgeting and managing my money luckily I have still had the importance of it drilled into my skull by my parents. And also I've seen how badly some of my friends family's live and that has served as a great motivation.
It's easy to get caught up in current things and buy in to fun. Make your own fun. Buy a fishing pole and have fun fishing then sell the fish. Lean to cook then sell them at the community college at lunch. Find ways to enjoy embracing the opportunity.
Successful business is just finding a need and filling it. I knew a guy who went to a strict college where all the guys had to have a specific haircut. He learned how to cut hair and charged the cheapest and made it his mission to know everyone on campus. Then he told every to get their hair cut by him on the weekends and he then made $700 every weekend for the whole semester.
Hmm good advice user. You have to sell to fit a need but if you enjoy the process its even better.
Because I will still have to finish my senior year and the shame of going back after leaving is too much.
Im writing the software for a cryptocurrency exchange now though so hopefully that pans out.
Learn to budget
Make your money work for you
Get obsessed, stay obsessed, with whatever you do for a career
Take opportunities. Comfort zone means stagnation.
If you want to learn how money works, study it, and go work at a bank as an intern in college.
Major in economics and/or international finance, go work for the big dogs.
Don't fall for get rich quick schemes like crypto.
There are no shortcuts, there's only hard work, and luck.
Do it online or something dude. Education and especially degrees are important.
Good advice. Idk if I have the head for numbers to work in economics. How much would a career in that even pay?
Learn something you enjoy doing and find a way to profit from it
Buy low, sell high.
Education is a market, not a monopoly. Find the most cost effective way to learn something, that means time+money. College is often not that.
Side projects: keep a journal of ideas and implement them asap.
Money has a way of snowballing; if you've gained it through honest means, then you already know the game enough to win consistently.
You gotta be smart, but most of all, you can't be dumb. Don't take others advice too seriously, double when it gets into specifics.
Firm handshake and EYE CONTACT
Honestly though, 95% of everything is shills and scams. Best he learns that now and how to spot it.
True but what about the prestige and networking opportunities offered by different schools. isn't that something you have to take into account as well.
Don't worry I have no intent of being on here a whole lot. Just occasionally to get some advice lol.
How much debt are you willing to go into to make some fake ass friends?
Also, OP, my bro, I can tell you have no qualms about sucking cock and cutting throats. Just do what feels right you bloodthirsty fuck hahaha
That depends on how much those fake ass friends can benefit me. I don't want them for companionship I want them for their usefulness.
For the most part you're not wrong.
you don't need to become friends with people to network effectively. just leaving a good impression and getting emails/phone numbers can go a long way.
precisely
also start a club or something similar. you don't get many risk free opportunities to practice leadership skills
At first I thought you meant like a drinking and dancing club lol.
