I promessi sposi is read by every student (like the divine commedy) and while it may seem a bit boring, especially for teenagers, it's a masterpiece of italian literature. However it's difficult to translate

I can't recommend it since I can't read italian. This is one of the best french I have ever read up there with Simon Leys so it can be lost in translation.
