That's correct, what you consider white? Having red hair and freckles or having black skin and blue eyes? In both cases homos have been dark skinned with dark eyes for a pretty long time before neands evoluted from heidelbergensis - and therefore mixed with sapiens. Blue eyes it's another whole thing, being a singular genetic mutation happened, it's not positive nor negative in terms of survival advantage. Saying "western hunter gatherers had had blue eyes" means literally nothing, before that one person having the DNA switch mutation in eyes melatonin first, all had dark eyes.
