I don't even know where to go to find good animu artists to commission. In the rare event that I'm even able to find one, they have all their slots full and commissions closed. One time I had alerts set up for an artist, but by the time I finally got the alert he was already full

maybe you could browse around on pixiv.net and if you find an artist you like, ask them if you can commission something. crypto is big in japan so maybe they'll take you up on it. they draw stuff all day anyway. some western artists over there post stuff clearly marked as commissioned so at least those would probably be open to it, though sounds like you want the genuine japanese animu artists

Because of my area of work, I know some freelancer artists in real life, and I know that at least two of them also draw animu style, and one of them is both talented and cheap. I think I will talk to them. Thanks to an app I made that is selling well, I have quite some money to spare now.
