Also I'm Norwegian (my dad's mom's grandparents came to North Carolina from Eidsvold, and I have blue eyes) and will be living in Japan for 8 months next year after studying Japanese for two years total. A lot of very nice and polite Japanese friends have helped me in my studies so far so I can definitely say that our two great and ancient nations are natural allies!

those two are very different for us. the govt officially supports hunting whales. on the other hand, only an irrelevant prefecture's small town of Japan has a custom of hunting dolphins so literally 99.9% of Japanese have no idea about dolphin meat.
I don't care about the protest against the govt but many of us will never forgive gaijin protesters attacking local fishermen in that town.

It's still legal in many countries but it's mostly indigenous people like Inuit that keep hunting whales aside from Nordics and Japanese, so the western mainstream media don't want to talk about it.
