Thinking of becoming a we dev. How hard is it to do? Do I really need to memorize endless lines of code by heart or it just say like 15 main lines you use a lot in say Javascript.

It’s not memorization dude, it’s much more of a skill. You learn and study it to the point where it becomes a hobby, then you can sit in front of a computer and tinker with code until you make cool shit. Think about it like building legos

You're female aren't you

Well that's relief.

No.. Just clueless.

Any web devs here?

>Memorizing lines of code

Christ. Anyone can code, just learn.

Bump for interest.

I took an online course and there was a lot of memorization involved.

I also read it's the most stressfull tech there is.

yea becoming a computer programmer isnt worth it

It's the only job I know of where you can go to a 3 month coding boot camp and make $80k starting. It can't be that hard if it's even possible. What jobs do you recommend without 4 year degrees? Also isn't web dev growing incredibly fast?

If you're asking people about it instead of just doing it you're not going to make it as a dev

Stress depends a lot on the company.

I'm a backend developer/architect myself and don't do webdev a lot. My main issue with it is that every year there seems to be a new framework and there's already hundreds. You have to invest a lot of time and effort just to keep up with the tech, even more than backend I would say.

Don't expect any shortcuts to greatness. To master software development you have to put in a lot of time and you have to be pretty smart to start with. I've been in the industry for 15 years and still feel totally inadequate.

Do front-end devs make good money\have it easier?

15 years and you still feel lost. That's reassuring.

I like to research things before just blindly picking something and running with it.

>change 1 line of js
>entire site breaks
>change it back then change 1 line of css
>entire site breaks again

I literally do it professionally. Are you like 12 years old?

You took a shit course then. There is next to no memorization involved with programming. Once you learn a programming language you solve problems using it and it becomes natural. You never, ever memorize lines

$80k starting for a front end dev is total bullshit, maybe in one of the crazy high cost of living coastal cities but then you have to live like a poor person. web devs think they're the best kind of developer because they're usually self centered douche bags, but they're actually the lowest on the totem pole and most replaceable in practice. database admins/sql developers or software engineers are much more respected.

> Do front-end devs make good money\have it easier?

From my experience the money is less than backend guys. The data layer and service layer are always more important than the view.
Considering easier, I wouldn't say and so that's why I stick to the backend.

But like I said it depends a lot on your talent. Some really smart guys can make it seem easy, average guys have to work hard and suffer and dumb guys can be dumb enough to believe they know everything and their shit is good.

Awesome, I think I'll really enjoy web dev then.

it's going to be outsourced to pajeets
they will happily accept 25k year

I started learning Computer science but as soon as saw the problems hit the ground hard ;), now transitioning into web dev hoping it will be easier.

I just can't get recursive code, i know the definition but my brain "starts to melt" trying to tackle it as one user noted.

Maybe someday transition out of to to smth more serious.
I need to learn math right to be a good programmer?

Anyone know any high paying jobs easy to start like web dev?

I think there is stuff to be memorized. Some problems involve remembering the algorithms functions used to solve it isin't it ?

>how to connect to database:
1. Create database connection
2. Select the database
3.Perform database query
4.Use returned data
5. close connection

Not much programming, but you need to remember functions.

expected growth isn't good for dev since most are pajeets/women who only bring down the salary due to incompetency

I remember when web devs used to make 6 figures starting easy

now it's pic related and that's still dropping

I expect as low as 50k next year

go into blockchain dev trust me it still starts at 150 salary but you need to be somewhat competent so not a pajeet/woman

How many functions are you expected to memorize for a given language? And when you say memorize do you mean memorize or just be able to remember them enough to reference them and look the function up?

How do I learn block chain dev?

If you are relying on memorization you are doing it wrong.

At bit coin university

tutorials online

then create and market your own project or contribute to a popular project

ideally both

then get a gig or get hired

if you have shit work experience or no degree you probably won't be able to ask for more than 80k starting but you can double that soon after

Okay, this and the others comments help a lot.

Thanks for the tips.

So basically female

This reddit thread from a few days ago looks pretty good user. Yes it’s reddit, yes they’re faggots, but it might be worth checking out: reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/97g9n0/an_extensive_list_of_blockchain_courses_resources/
