I am wondering why is it so hard for people that grew up in ex-communist countries to understand that cummunist/socialist regimes are not sustainable.
Even if you state facts they will say it was different and that it was all western plan to destory them because they are jelous.
And yet they go to work in the evil west capitalist countries that they despise.
I am from ex yugo country and have family members that still believe socialism will come back..

I've been to Cuba several times and people there seem relatively happy. It I don't see people going through garbage cans like I saw all the time in Mexico and see sometimes here in Canada

Communism per se isn't necessarily the issuee the issue is that communists are authoritarians and that includes the people too.

Communists have a self-correcting mechanism where they reach a small, but critical, percentage of the population during rough times. They then seize power and end up killing each other.
However the Pinochet method is still the most efficient and humanitarian when dealing with a communist infestation.

Trump's an excellent compromise candidate. He's coloring within the legal lines, goes on about 'rah rah anyone can be an American', and even pays lip service to Hispanics and Blacks.

Communism could work, but only after hardcore libertarianism has created ways to do black market, avoid taxes, etc.. (see crypto). Once we have reached this state, if the people are smart enough (can go over the freeloader valley in the society's optimization problem (tldr: > 105 IQ)), then communism is the only way for the society to survive, as without it, the wealthy would simply take everything and destroy the society once no ressources are available anymore (of course the wealthy would be the last to die, but they will die still). Thus, expect thousands if not hundred thousands of years of society natural selection, before one start to understand that cooperation is the only way to survive.

I try to change my friends political views by changing what is in their own self-interest. Libertarians are made by making people strong and independent and socialists are made by making people weak and state-dependent.
I encourage my friends to invest a portion of their income in stocks, live a healthy lifestyle (plant-based diet and exercise) and develop their minds by listening to audiobooks and through discussion about things that matter.
