Soccer here is really only popular when the national team is doing well, so not often. Hurling, Gaelic football and rugby are the three most popular sports.
In rural areas yes, in urban areas no. Only played in some rural areas though, traditionally the flatter agricultural areas of the country. In other rural areas they play Gaelic football, another of our native games. Soccer is probably more popular in larger towns and cities, but Gaelic football is played in a lot of those also.
