What did you major in? What would you major in if you could go back?
What did you major in? What would you major in if you could go back?
>What did you major in?
Computer science.
>What would you major in if you could go back?
Whatever, really. I never tried using my degree and just went straight into being a NEET. It was just to please my parents.
>did
I'm a 23 year old who still doesn't have his degree, because I took two years off to experience NEEThood in the middle of my undergraduate degree.
I'm majoring in Finance.
>What did you major in?
Math
>What would you major in if you could go back?
Math
I didn't major in anything, but i do have a welding degree and now i'm studying foreign languages at Uni for meme, parents and just so my ass wouldn't get conscripted.
If i wasn't a moron i would've went with Finances and shit but let's be honest a bachelor's degree in anything doesn't matter even in my own country...
>What did you major in?
Physics
>What would you major in if you could go back?
nothing. fuck jewniversity
>what did you major in
Biology
>What would you major in if you cold go back
Biology, or maybe don't do it at all, university sucks, it must suck even more if i'm doing something I don't even like
I'm currently majoring in law and I'm pretty happy with it, don't think I'd change it
>What did you major in?
Meme media degree
>What would you major in if you could go back?
Probably law
Cs soon. Got a student job already which pays pretty good.
I'll start law school in autumn, what do you plan to specialize in?
electrical & electronics engineering
would major it again.
>What did you major in?
computer ""science""""
>What would you major in if you could go back?
i would not go to uni, it sucks and the degree is just a certificate and i learned nothing important
>Wanted to be a children's book writer

>I break them out and smile and be happy with their adventures
>Only thing that made me happy, collecting dust and roach bites

seems like you are a moron
Biochem, going in in two months.
Is this a good idea? Not sure if it's very employable. I'm trying to escape Singapore.
>Computer Engineering.
>The same thing or EE
I'll probably do constitutional or international law, dunno desu, what about you Hans?
I'm not sure. I applied for two universities, one with regular law (where you learn everything and specialize only at the end) and one with a focus on business law from the beginning (which leaves out the parts of law that are irrelevant to business). The first one leaves me more options but it takes longer and will be harder. However I can't become a judge or attorney with the business law bachelor, I'd need additional qualification after that.
Which one would you pick?
I'd absolutely start of with just regular law, it gives you more options and is much safer. What if you dislike business law in the end, you've got no flexibility. If on the other hand, your tastes change and you start liking another legal field you won't be locked in. Also, having a wider understanding of law is very undervalued by people who just go for a specialisation instantly
Electrical engineering
Physics, more interesting to me overall and there would have been less credit hours, less homework/projects, and more exam based which is much easier for me.
my MS and PhD will basically be physics anyways
There's a lot of people already studying this over in Western Europe. You'll probably still get a job tho if you get a specialisation
Computer engineering.
I'm getting a degree in biology and taking math/physics on the side because I fear if I do not stimulate my mind I will sink down to normie level doing basically the same shit year in and out.
That's what I fear. Singapore is becoming more and more totalitarian and I thought I was going to be able to find a job in the UK after doing my studies there but it's becoming increasingly apparent that that isn't the case. I'm depressed as fuck lately because of this
Yeah that's what I was leaning towards too. Thanks. I wish you success in your studies
>Physics
>Probably arts
almost the same happened to me, since I was young my parents tried to put me in computer science courses, I even passed for one college about it but it is just not for me, I would've regreted so much if I did it just to please them, it was the first time in my life I took a decision about it without thinking about anyone but me
Biology is hard, even harder to get a job in it, but goddam I am so fucking happy when i'm doing it, when i'm on a lab, when i'm on a class, and i'm on camp, I wouldn't change it for anything
Law
If I could go back I'd do languages or maybe international relations
you will need a PhD, look into doing a PhD programme in Europe if you want to move
never anything grabbed my attention enough to stick with it, everytime i try to think there's a ton of stuff i would kinda like to do but there's always a downside or it's just not enough, i've tried with economics and other majors but im a faillure at everything, im interesting in everything and nothing at the same time. It's horrible
>medicine, but I dropped out
>medicine, but don't drop out this time
I'm already doing my undergrad at a top uni in the UK.
I do have intentions of doing a PhD although I'm also keen on going into areas such as sales, marketing or business as an alternative to grad school. Still extremely fearful of the job market, though.
same. Did you go to uni yet?
>Computer engineer
>probably the same because I don't see any other fields I would study while making a living
i did electronics engineering but mostly focused on lasers and shit and it was pretty cool. doing grad school now and should be able to land NASA job or other cool company after due to my main advisor's connections. all his pass students have gotten into nasa or apple
>medicine
what specialization?
>Computer Engineer
>Electrical and Computer Engineer
Half of the recruiters thought I was a coder or IT because they are retarded. Unfortunately they are the gate keepers.
you do a specialization after finishing a degree
but did you think about it?
Yeah, i spent 4 years in uni changing majors, dropping and coming back, trying to think of my future but nothing really worked out as i planned, i remember being 18 and dreaming about uni and having a job.
At 22 now i guess i should start looking for any job but im still in denial about failing like this, i think i was never in the right mental state to study.
I liked ChemE tho, but now i will try to pick some cisco degree and well if i fail at that then it's over, in the end, all i wanted since i was 18 was to move from my current home, that was always my goal.
I'm in a similar situation. I already started two degrees, the first one I quit after just one week because I kinda panicked about everything. I moved to another town and started another degree, actually tried it but quit after one semester. Here I am now.. Which degrees did you try besides ChemE?
Going to major in philosophy.
If I could choose again, I'm torn between philosophy and agronomy, as lectures aren't all that useful and most of the actually useful work you do on your own. But the people on uni are great, so I don't regret it.
yeah, I wanted to get into neurology as it was the most intersting area for me and has plenty of research opportunities nowdays because neuroscience is the next hot thing. I'm actually thinking about going back to school, but I'm not sure about it yet.
Computer science
Computer science
i haven’t majored in anything
based
If it isn't rude, what do you plan on doing after getting your major?
Philosophy and now Korean
Thought I would regret philosophy but it opened opportunities for me to be a philosophy professor in Asia. Asian univ pay well, plus I will get to travel a lot, work a minimum and it will be doing interesting stuff. If I had only my Korean degree I would probably be doing business and it seems hard and stressful. Kinda regret it still but whatever was free and ended up being useful, I just wish I had fun doing it.
Majored in Linguistics coming in, switched to Biology. Definitely happier and my job prospects are way better but if I had to do it over again I wouldve done some sort of engineering or biology off the bat
Isn't biology notoriously unemployable especially in the US?
Fix us our drinks at the bar and clean the poop out of the urinal while thinking deep thoughts about the meaning of life. No offense ofcourse.
Not the person youre replying to but law schools really like seeing philosophy degrees
After how long did you drop out and why?
you work as teacher now?
The main concern of ambitious philosophy students is to get a connection to the professional community through professors, and to other ambitious philosophy students. If you're connected to the professional community, you're set. You collaborate on projects, articles, symposiums, and all sorts of schtuff, and even the possibility of an assistant's chair in the future.
That cannot be the general strategy for students, though, as there is a limited amount of "spots" for these things. And some might find the professional community less than likeable. An alternative is enrolling in a "professorship" major (the other being "research") and gunning for a spot in secondary schools. With only philosophy (most of the students are studying philosophy + something, often languages, and expect employment in the other study. the students who study only philosophy are either the least (sole philosophy requires less points to enroll in) or the most interested and passionate), you can teach philosophy, ethics, logic and politics, but there is also no shortage of applicants. And the secondary schools themselves aren't the best work environment, particularly for someone who took philosophy out of passion.
There is another opportunity here. Philosophy teaches you to write pretty well, if you put some heart into it. Writing for newspapers doesn't require a degree in journalism. so, if you wrote some articles for student magazines or some papers, and if you helped organise lectures and symposiums in your student organisation (which is something everyone can and should do), there is a chance for an employment as a journalist. this one isn't that bad, although much of today's journalism is utterly terrible.
there is another shot. the philosophy universities often have social sciences departments, and plenty contact with NGOs. if you get some good connections, you can hope for a job in an NGO. that's not a bad shot.
When i was 18 i looked into Economics because i liked that, but i would drop out semester after semester, couldn't get around to study or just wasn't in the mood, then switched to an easier university to study something like Management but again i would drop out or not study, it takes me a lot of effort to focus or study, then last year i switched to Engineer because i really liked the ChemE jobs but i don't think im cut out for heavy math and stuff
Truth is. i think it's not just that im retarded or lazy, it all started like in february of the year when i was entering uni for first time, i had a really bad trip with a drug and that kinda fucked me mentally, like really bad up to the point that i lost friends, that combined with the fact that i live with some really toxic person just drags out all my will to live to be honest, or at least that's what i want to belive, i don't know, i just want to move and have a job, just be happy.
If i would born again, i wish i was a musician, jamming around with friends.
>What did you major in?
electrical engineering
>What would you major in if you could go back?
art or law
History major o/
Also secretly stalinist.
after 2 years. I had depression and generalized anxiety disorder that got to the point I had panic attacks every time before going to classes and wasn't able to study at all. I only got diagnosed after I dropped out, now I've been on meds and in therapy for some time and I'm getting better, but I'm afraid it will come back when I'll go back to a highly stressful course like medicine
It depends. I want to go into medicine, but i decided i wont be going to grad school right away. You can almost always find jobs in research labs at larger institutions and while its not as employable as say a math degree, its certainly better than linguistics
The American MD system always baffles me, it's the reason why the US has a bigger biology glut than elsewhere.
If you have only a BS in biology you'll just be a pipette slave for the higher ranks until you get a higher degree t.bh
finally, you can always freelance write, though that is plenty risky without connection to the professional community, or you can find a job doing something completely unrelated.
i am studying something with philosophy (though i won't say what, to preserve at least some anonymity, given the minor number of croatian philosophy students), so i am more inclined to see my employment in that other branch.
philosophy was an aristocratic pastime for good reason. it is an amazing thing to study, and deals with essential fields of inquiry, but it isn't productive in that there are productive jobs associated with it. for it to survive in a truly just world, we would have to live in such a way that the time spent on productive activities is highly limited, letting us engage in inquiry beside it.
>What did you major in?
English Literature
>What would you major in if you could go back?
Probably something related to computers or accountancy
We don't really have "majors" in the UK though, you just pick a subject and do nothing but that for 3 years
Yeah thats sort of what i figured but my plan is to take classes at an institution while i work there to get lowered costs for classes and then hopefully work towards my degree. Theres more employment than you make it seem though, as ive seen hundreds of listings for life science degrees that pay reasonably well for entry level positions
Electrical Engineering
Probably Philosophy and electrical engineering, though it would've taken me an extra year
Majored in Computer Networking. I would go back and do Law, Political Science or History.
I'm the poster from earlier in the thread trying to emigrate with a biochem degree done in the UK, hopefully what you're saying is true. Everyone on r*Ddit makes it seem like a non-engineering degree is an automatic death sentence and while I think that's exaggerated it still frightens my autistic brain.
Oh, and, I forgot, a professor told me that philosophy students are along with psychology students allowed to work in HR here, but I haven't checked the veracity of that statement.
i hope my posts answered your question
why would you put "no intent to provoke" next to a post with clear intent to provoke? it is quite unclear to me.
for students or...? i know a couple of people who minored law but switched to philosophy as didn't quite like their law study.
Its extremely exaggerated. College degrees are becoming a little less important for their content at the moment. If you can, try to live in places with large research institutions like hospitals and universities, as theyre usually hiring. Places like san francisco, boston, washington DC etc etc. Youll probably have roommates, but you should be able to get by for the most part.
Yeah philosophy is a good way to get into law schools because it is reliant almost entirely on logic. The acceptance rate for philosophy majors is pretty high too
I'm off to London, UK is Europe's largest life science market and London/Oxford/Cambridge has a lot of biotech going on. Hopefully I'll get a paying job, only time will tell I guess.
>What did you major in?
Architecture
>What would you major in if you could go back?
Nothing. I'd drop out and start my own business.
I understand you bro. I used to be excellent in school. After school I went to the army for some time because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Then I went to uni and I started having anxiety about my future, now will to learn, depression. I think it's got to do with being the master of your own life now, not like in school or military where they told us what to do. Now, nobody cares what you do, it's all up to you. Probably a sign of immaturity that I'm incapable to cope with that, but I try. Don't stop trying to improve and keep your head up bro.
damn, that sucks. I tried to get into med school once but was denied, it's pretty hard to get in here. Anyways good luck to you. What are you considering besides medicine? My brother in law and uncle are doctors, from what they tell it's extremely stressful indeed.
think about France and Germany as well
I definitely am thinking about that, my university is right next to the Goethe Institut so I might take classes there or something.
Anything to get out of this tropical hellhole of a city-state, I don't want to waste away my youth living in a concrete jungle and being a corporate slave.
That's nice. Thank you for the information.
thanks bro. I'm currently not considering anything really, I want to wagecuck for a year of two more and make sure I'm in a good mental health before making any big decisions
>with being the master of your own life now
Yeah, that too, there's so many possibilities and you may feel a lot of them could suit you but there's a downside in each of them too like heavy math in ChemE so you don't really know what to do and every try you make costs time, but you know being stuck as a neet and living with fucked up people just feels like you are throwing away your life, it's not like im a NEET and super enjoying comfy stress-free shit, anyway good luck to you too german-user.
I didn't major in anything, It was rigged from the start bros
Sounds reasonable. Unlike me who's about to start another degree of which I'm not sure I'm passionate about, but I told myself I'll pull through this time...
what's your current job? I used to work in warehouses. Not that great pay but it was chill, you could walk all day and listen to music
you're describing it perfectly. Anyways, it'll turn out fine somehow. Thanks and best of luck to you too
That's a much more comprehensive answer than I expected thank you very much. If it isn't gossipy what are you in particular striving for?
didnt see that you meant the UK my bad. You should be even more set there then, especially considering the cost of higher education is way lower than in america. gl
youre welcome friend good luck
Industrial design
Not industrial design
I'm bartending. dealing with drunk people gets annoying and it fucks up your sleep cycle, but money is all right and schedule is flexible
Monsieur Villani?
anyways, I'm going to bed now. best of luck German user, we're all gonna make it
Nice, good night Polandbro
Do you mean which strategy of employment I'm striving for or what I'm striving for with my study?
If you're talking about employment, I am trying to follow that proverb with eggs and baskets by keeping my options open.
As for my personal aspirations, I am trying to take part in as many projects as I can, and cooperate with as many people as I can. I really enjoy it, and it helps my own growth. I've had plenty of fun, and got some good experience out of it. I have also made great progress in sorting my shit out since secondary school, particularly on the philosophic and emotional levels. I have made many essential breaks up until now. But despite being a good student, I am not satisfied with how much I have read. So, this Summer I am trying to sort that out. I have made some plans to make a consistent and comprehensive regime of work for the first time. I feel that this is a make it or break it situation now. So, shit, I really hope I'll make it.
There are some super fucked up people on here but you and Polandbro are cool. I am currently a neet and will soon be getting a job. I haven't been required to get a job because my parents didn't care because I am going college, Community College to be exact. I gotta get one now though. A bit stressed because I've never had a real job before. Don't even have a license. Gotta untuck myself eventually. I hope you guys have just as much luck getting through this shit. Nice talking with you.

thats what a major is
CS
Probably still cs, but maybe math
i didn't accomplish anything, try different majors, engineer for my mom, art for my father, graphic design for myself, we had a terrible economic year, so i had to drop out, doesnt matter, work from home doing freelance and studying by myself, meet a shitty client who pay me low for some really heavy work, gives my hand tendonitis, drop work, try to study a new career, have been so long since i spent time with persons, that kicks out my brain, got depression and social anxiaty, i try, again, work from home while going to the psychiatrist, he meds me some shitty drugs that messed up with my nervous system, couldnt use my hands neither my arms, now i'm trying to study japanese and english with a private professor, eventually i want to learn more lenguajes and try to find a work with it
>What would you major in if you could go back?
some of those shitty courses you finish in months, and find a job anywhere like a supermarket or as secretary
