Ok, so Skycoin is composed of many co-dependent projects that come together to form a new type of technological ecosystem. At the root of scaling up Sky for bigger masses of end-users there is the SKYWire project that is implemented gradually upon an undetermined timeline. So far they identified 3 phases of Skywire, don't know if this represents an incentive to invest or does it represent a risk due to the uncertainty of their timetable.
3 phases of SKYwire
As far I m concerned, the testnet was a success fren. Close to 7000 nodes and a lot of data provided to the devs so the mesh net should launch without a problem
the fact that they have a plan and identified a roadmap for the Skywire is decreasing the risk if investment
more risky would be if we wouldn't know what's next. soon should be launched the mainnet phase
Given the dimensions and ambition of the project it s normal to cross deadlines..I would not worry much about that. So far we 've got a tremendous VPN and lots of hardware on the way
After years of careful planning Sky started to become public with its research , I think it s only normal to implement things gradually. They need to have a good marketing strategy and it all comes down to how the public responds . After all , they need to test their research in real life conditions and see how it works on a big scale
wtf? is it over??? am I working on DIY for nothing?
drop a link for this info pls
Yes but their waiting list for skyminers is so long that i don t think the mainnet transition will happen that soon . I mean there are close to 11000 on that list and i don t think they can produce them by the end of 2018
true about dimension. what sky is doing is not only the Skywire project. The whole ecosystem has different type of projects. the fiber platform is also a very big and ambitious if you ask me, and the number of applicants is growing. This year, almost every second month that had a new project on the platform
NXS already has meshnet satellites though. How will skywire compete? Distributing $600 routers? lol
If you got a skyminer built by you i think you ve wasted no time at all and that you re in front of the list . Did you manage to get any skycoins yet? I ve seen a video of a conference that said that there are 7000 nodes or so in place but they didn t say anything of moving to the next phase
Who says the main net needs to launch only when ALL miners are delivered?
There will be more hardware updates on the skyminers after it passes phase 2 , but i think that 7000 nodes or ever 20000 for that matter are still not enough to overthrow powerful currencies such as BTC ETH or many alt coins that already have a fair share of users , so my guess is that the sky comunnity will grow exponentially and only when they reach a certain amount of nodes will they get to bring in the mainnet
Skywire has nothing to do with overthrowing another crypto coin. I ts about providing an alternative internet with complete privacy and decentralized. Also they need to deliver for the initial backers who don't have years to wait for a product to become functional, a product which they already paid for
Stop worrying of the timetable , the tech market is always bringing new things in , the crypto market is unstable and mooning is never about timetables. Sky is an awesome project , they are publicly engaged so you should go for it . If investing was all about timetables with no risk i d agree with you but in the crypto bizz investing means speeding up the process of implementation . If we all wait for the minimal risk occasion we will all get the minimal profit too
wtf u talkin about ??!
I'm saying my DIY is not done and u re saying that I'm toplisted?! this Jow Forums got everyone crazy man
Yea they need to show users that the project is feasible so more will back them up I agree that they can not come out with all their tech all at once , they need to show it makes money before further investing
Keep working on it , you ll have it done in no time , and don t worry , even in the case where the get over the testnet phase , the skyminer will work perfectly . You re not working in vain
>>only when they reach a certain amount of nodes
any idea how many nodes are needed for the mainnet phase? I hope it won't be done till I get whitelisted. I don't like this pressure.
ofc it will work smoothly, I m a perfectionist but I also like $ and the incentives are on my 'to get' list
Given that they released only the 8boards miners this question is difficult to answer without inside intel but i think that the best strategy is to get this nodes in diverse geographical areas so that the network gets to cover as many countries as possible. This way their reach , popularity and credibility will have lots to gain ,making marketing cheaper
The mainnet needs a lot of people using Skycoin and Skyminer within Skywire so that an investment in antenas is valid . Till then we will use the Internet we already have . There is not a strict number of miner or of people but for this project to succeed it s scalability goals more people need to become interested
Well seven years have passed, I sure hope there are already enough people on boad
