I'm extremely financially illiterate so I was always curious why people just don't pay their loans? What's forcing them to? What if you have great credit and are responsible for a long period of time to gain trust, get approved and take out some huge loan and then just don't pay it? All I can think would be jail but how long could they keep you there for? You could still just not pay it right?

user, the student loans pay your school first and if there is any left over it goes to you. Payment usually occurs twice a year to cover that semester tuition and room and board. You could probably ask for a ton of money but you'd have to stay in school to collect it all.
