I think Italy should be where a new Europe begins. They're poor. For sure it's not easy if you have no money and if you aim to travel easily, life in Milan is more practical, easier bouroccracy, you can find a job, move fast, go abroad, go to concerts etc. If you have no ambitions or money enough for your ambitions, living in those places will be cheap, peaceful and easy mode. A problem I would have in those places, unless you're in Naples or Palermo, would perhaps be people mentality, being more conservative. But not more than peripheries in the north probably. Basilicata is one of the few regions I have never visited but I think it's stunning. It's a bit I don't visit Sicily but I'll be there for a long period soon.
Some of my very best friends are from Abruzzo and they're very chill and open minded, so my general idea is that people in the south are not more conservative and religious than northerners, often. Perhaps the north has more middle-big and we'll connected towns, that's it

I don't know Friuli any much apart from Trieste. Trieste is gorgeous, it's like being in Austria and there's the sea. Food is mixed with the countries next there, as Slovenia. The problem is it's far away from everything. Very far.
No idea about women differences, it's just like men I guess. I think women from the north are a bit more serious and shy in general, and southern women have more often a typical med structure, are shorter, wider hips and breast, but we're all mixed anyway, and it's full of southerners in the north. If you don't know italian you should start from some of the big cities (Milano, Roma) or the university cities like Bologna or Padova because there most people know english and it will be easier to integrate. Trento is also good if you like the mountains

I'm from there. It's very nice and calm, quite rich, Turin is a beautiful city too live in and one of the less expensive big cities in the north. It's a bit far away from everything, compared to lumbardy or cities like Florence and bologna, and people are quite religious. Food is underrated and unknown by other Italians
