I live in Ontario unfortunately, and Quebec has even worse climate.

I actually never payed attention. Like your pic are more common, but I remember big curved ones that were delicious because crustier on the tips.

"Croissant" is a direct translation of the german "Kipferl", but the French version has no historical weight to it (like the Siege of Vienna), that's why there's no need for it to be curved.
