We're the most regulated and bureaucratic nanny state in the EU because our own parliament sets them. That's why you don't see many of the ridiculous laws we have here in the other EU countries. On the contrary EU has been the only instance pressuring our parliament to get rid of the outdated laws which makes no sense.
And it's our customs breaking the EU laws when it comes to Car and Alcohol taxation, but I guess it's just easier to blame EU what our own government fucks up
