Good point. Where I live, no one knows their neighbors, everyone is isolated. No one knows what their local elected officials are doing to fuck them over on a daily basis, let alone what their names are.
Sure, everyone is pissed when the school board of 3 people "unanimously" decides to raise property taxes 20%, but they don't know where to begin stopping them because they have no time. They get mad when the state spends millions of taxpayer dollars on commercials telling people that water is wet. Apathy is the final destination.
This is the norm. A lot of people don't seem to realize and many more just don't care that they are being exploited in such a way.
