Is Econ a meme degree? Am I being ripped off?
College
Economics degrees are fuckin worthless user! Do you believe in the money multiplier effect?
If you go to a shitty, low-ranked university it doesn't matter which degree you're doing, future wagecuck.
Fuck really?
I’m not nigger tier enough for a trade job.
Not a genius but not retarded (120iq)
What are my options? Can’t wage cuck forever I’d rather kill myself
My state university isn’t bad. Figured I could try and land a gov job.
Its something you can learn by reading a couple books so yeah its a meme
Normies do consider it prestigious though
My sister has an econ degree and is still waiting tables so you tell me.
Yeah I totally agree. I learned a lot just from online research and sowells book.
God damnit.
OP, I love askin the economist this question! Do you believe in the money multiplier effect?
Wow... and here I was regretting studying law.
Does reading the Bitcoin Standard count?
>Wow... and here I was regretting studying law.
FYI BAR stands for British Accredited Regency...those mutts never were freed
Dunning Kruger at its finest
What do you mean do I believe in it? Do I believe it happens? Or do you mean I think it should happen? In that case no but I can see why it happens and why people support it.
>tfw BA in economics
>tfw stuck in low paying clerical job
True but they make decent salaries that can be used on wise investments. I lost a podcast where a lawyer is able to work remotely. That would be ideal
Are you being paid somewhat decent? That sounds awful I’m dropping out
OP is an self limiting underachieving loser with zero potential.
you’re better off killing yourself faggot. You won’t make it
Econ and CS double major here.
Econ is such a joke. You learn models that doesn’t apply to the real world because single variable calculus is easier to do than multi variable calculus.
I went with the Comp Sci route as entry level Econ jobs just pay above mininum wage.
The biggest lie they tech is perfect competition is the best model. Fucking left wing shit when monopoly is the best market to be in.
Nope. I went to a shit school though and didnt apply myself at all
Makes sense with CS. You are entering a market where you have more competition based on skill and labor wages. You vs Mr. Pajeet for 3 dollars an hour. Or import mr Pajeet on a visa and send em back once you’re done
Pretty accurate. Didnt know Econ was like this when I got into it. Was hoping to graduate and try to work my was into consulting.
Fucking this. I lost so much motivation in my Econ degree when I realized it was bullshit. If you really are determined to get your degree, you may need to pair it with stats or CS, but even then you’d be better off just getting one of those and dropping Econ entirely.
Was thinking about a minor in CS but thought of this. Fuck
Are you assuming pajeets with their shit coding skills, smell and horrible accents is the same caliber as a North American engineer?
My parents used pajeets and they totally fucked everything up/ wasted so much time
Just wait until Bitcoin folks start spinning up their own businesses or become affluent within companies.
If your degree isn't required for regulation or something highly cutting edge like medicine or engineering, you'll be looked down on for going into debt over a worthless piece of paper.
Why did Qualcomm wanna sell their tech to China? Why does Apple have all their manufacturing in China.
Labor costs play a significant factor desu.
Dyor on it user. Don’t trust me on it. If you do, find your competitive advantage from the onset.
I don’t know about other countries, but in my country (Northern Europe) the average salary for a bachelor in econ/BM + A good master is like 160k. In other words, if you’re smart you can easily expect an average salary of 200k+. Also, the education is really good. I plan on doing my master in the US though.
Me again
>While the money multiplier theory can be a useful way of introducing money and banking in economic textbooks, it is not an accurate description of how money is created in reality.
on the second page on the bottom left column.
This paper is how i know if an economist actually know what they are on about...
Drug dealers also make good money. I do not want to attorn people. You know attorneys are just pirates right? The BAR is just a Letter of Marke....
Yes. From The Godfather novel: 1 good attorney is more dangerous than 100 men with guns.
My plan was to move to Europe. I will go anywhere for a job so that’s good to know
I’m from Denmark fwiw. The tax is insane, but you get free health care, big pension, some of the shortest working hours in the world, lots of vacation time, free school and university for your kids etc. You’ll obviously make more money by working 12 hours/day on Wall Street, but life in Denmark is really comfy desu. After you factor in the short working hours, at least 5 weeks of paid vacation, large pension, high quality free health care etc. the post taxhourly wages are actually very good in Denmark compared to a lot of other rich countries - even if you’re making 6-figures.
I was top 10 of my class , was barely able to find an soulcrushing office job. My days are filled with checking Excel and calling people to ask to send me an Excel.
Everyone is shitting on economics here, but what about finance with accountant as side education?
>hey user, I can't open .xlsx files. Can you convert it to .xls for me and send it back? I'm heading over to your desk now to tell you the same thing I just emailed you about twenty seconds ago.
Isn't Econ a social science or something, its not real etc.
I always heard that PhD in Economics is Ascended Godhood Tier, you can then see the entire planets systems and machinations for what they truly are - a folly
Governments come to you to solve their problems and you become one of the most important people in your area. Mathematicians are below you for they have no real use for their works and Finance majors are mere brutes who only specialize in using math to make money.
Like Psychology though if you have a bachelors you are a pleb and will get pleb wages.
Economics is a great degree user. The chad Econ glad lords over all the STEM Wagecucks
Just make sure you minor in "my family has connections and will get me into a major bank/company"
>talking about pajeets
>bring up chinks out of nowhere
kek
This isnt a perfect diagram of cost of work you learn in econ 1
Quality of labor applies
That doesn’t sound bad at all
That sounds really nice.
Do it before an MBA or law school or try to get into academia not on it’s own. Know two people with economics degrees-one is a state cop and one is a comptroller.
I’ve been thinking of transferring to a school in Europe. How is your education system?
I don't have a degree in econ, so idk.
I've taken a couple econ classes that have helped me.
I had a good teacher though.
Ty Mr. Smith.
I'm so sick of this bullshit argument.
Yea you can learn lots of stuff with enough time and effort outside of college. Amazing right?
Well here's the catch dipshit. If you want a job 99% of jobs you apply for are going to thumb their nose at you if you come in without that degree and claim "self-study."
Is it right? Probably not, but thems the brakes.
Phd grad in economics here. Do it only in the top 5 universities. otherwise it's completely useless.
You just explained it is a meme degree lol. Do you believe in the meme? Getting the piece of paper from the institution just to get "forward" in life? It's okay to do it, but with that mindset you will never make it user
Cosby:
>CAN"T CASH OUT
Haven't read this thread so maybe someone else has said this, but the single most important indicator for landing a good job is internships. This is true for literally every major. You should have at LEAST 2 summers worth of paid internships by the time you finish your degree.
Art History degree? If you interned in the summers and during the school years in museums and doing curation or conservation, you will likely get a job at a museum or gallery when you graduate.
Electrical Engineering Degree? If you did some extracurricular projects in college such as robotics, and spent your summers interning at companies that hire EE graduates, you will find a good paying job with a firm.
Econ Degree? If you have good recommendations from professors who have noticed your effort in research, as well as having good internships in consulting, finance, etc firms throughout college, you will land a good paying job in or around your desired field.
THE ABSOLUTE LARGEST red flag for a potential employer is seeing a recent graduate with a degree but nothing else on his resume of value. That means that you were blessed with a wealth of opportunity and you still could only bring yourself to do the absolute bare minimum. You are looked upon worse than someone who has been working since 18 and never went to college.
> Am I being ripped off?
As in learning anything useful, yes.
As in being able to access jobs with decent pay, it's not the worst idea.
>underlying assumptions behind the field are outright wrong or use models with invalid assumptions
>people are surprised it’s useless
What mindset are you on about? A realistic one? Yea that's a good one. It's better mindset than "hehe meme degree I don't need a degree I can just learn it on my own and make it."
Newsflash: It doesn't work that way. Outside of niche fields and trades you have to have a degree to make any major and quick advancement in your field. A liberal arts degree is better than no degree. Hell a big time executive at my company has a acting degree or whatever they are fucking called and he's raking in the big bucks. He'd still be stuck in lower management without one.
My point is that everyone here thinks they are some big hotshot ready to start there own company or what have you needs to manage there expectations.
