Seriously considering either studying philosophy and, or something related to linguistics.
I know we currently have a STEM or die type of world, but I think that the comp sci market is getting over saturated. The only thing that seems more niche like is either Physics or Maths.
if you're going into law eventually than you're fine. if not, drop philosophy and take up data science
Adam Turner
Only point of getting a Philosphy degree is if you go to an Ivy League or equivalent school.
Otherwise just do a STEM degree.
Camden Gutierrez
Btw, some Universities are offering a CS + Linguistics degree. UIUC offers it for example, not sure about other top CS schools.
Asher Wright
A philosophy degree is only as good as you are. It can be a jumping off point into science, mathematics, or law very easily, or it can stand on its own merits. But if all you want to do is rehash old arguments on ethics then you're probably not going to hack it as a university professor.
I never really understood how you americans approach degrees, you basically do a degree to do another degree.
Evan Harris
Professional degrees in the US lead to the best paying jobs. MBA, Law School, and Med School guarantees you a six figure job, if you go to any somewhat decent school.
Gabriel Richardson
And to be able to study those degree's you can use any bachelors degree?
Luke Torres
Med school is nice in that if a US school is giving you the MD degree, as long as you pass everything you will have a job. Med schools are more standardized in that way than law. For law the school name has much more weight. I don't know the exact path for Law or an MBA, but in the US, you can have any degree to get into medical school as long as you take the required class (chemistries, calculus, etc). It's nice in that you could work on engineering, but take all the required class for application to medical school and thus have a back up plan if you don't get in.
Jayden Wood
Yes, although in med school they might make you take some classes before you can apply.
Dominic Taylor
>I know we currently have a STEM or die type of world, but I think that the comp sci market is getting over saturated. False. The number of jobs being created is dramatically outscaling the number of students signing up for CS degrees. That's not even taking into account dropouts who never finish.
Wyatt Mitchell
idk man, i see alot of talk about companies hiring cheap labor from india. I hope you're right tho
Adrian Thomas
I've heard this too. Don't know if I'm fucked by going for a cs degree or not.
Eli Campbell
Yes, they have job listings asking for 7 years experience for 20$/hr in expensive areas, and then import pajeets because nobody will take absurdly low pay compared to the rest of the market. If they couldnt import pajeets with H1B, they would pay the same as any other company for labor.
Henry Cruz
Philosophy is trash, if you want a meme degree where you think go to Math or Physics instead. All STEM is getting saturated as well but CS is probably the best because automation will never stop, robot overlords is the future. The thing is, in STEM, you'll become a code monkey regardless of what degree you choose, unless you study engineering at the top of your class.
My advice is do what makes you wanna kill yourself the most, chances are you will wagecuck until your sixties regardless and you don't wanna hate what you do all that time, maximize comfy/money and choose things you're good at and pay ok. Don't follow other people's advice blindly ever. If you strictly need to go to college to do what you want, do it, otherwise, the jobs that matter in STEM at least are coding and you can learn that on your own as efficiently without being $100k in debt. If you can go for free favor going though because it makes you more employable
Adam Jones
Some do but most pajeets can't code for shit and a lot of times is better to have people working on site, and as you know they live in India
interesting point of view, however i dont really like computer science, I mean, I like computational theory but coding and syntax is boring as fuck.
Philosophy is something that makes me glad to be alive tho
Evan Morales
The world is in desperate need for good god-tier type philosophers. Having said that, you'll have dificulties staying afloat unless you manage to come up with a new paradigm and sell millions of books. We don't live in a world like that anymore. We live in a world of zombified consumer slaves.
If you're really interested in philisophy, good for you. Just don't make it your major. Take up a major in Law and minor in phil or something like that. Develop your system as a pasttime.
Juan Bell
I wont fail you user
Jeremiah Ross
Now get out there and complete the system of german idealism bro. Reclaim what has been lost.
