It's a sure way to play out your luck as well, there is no telling how AMD will move, it surprised a lot of people and there is no reason for AMD not to rise again in price next up, the trend is set so far, it hit a wall yesterday, if it does go above 26 in the next days then it's likely it will keep going up.
But if you had to guess how AMD will move tomorrow (remember that this is a volatile stock as it rised interest in day traders) how certain would you be?
You can make money with the right timing in these stocks only when you see the trend forming, this is why it's ideal for swing trades, but there is no trend right now, it's in a bubble.

yeah if the price of a stock is above the strike price (because your betting it will go down, below it) than the more time that goes by the value will become less and less and the farther away from that price is goes, the less and less the value of your option. i havent held a put till expiration in the green so i cant tell ya. but the idea is to get rid of the option before the expiry date regardless of making profit or not.
