The minute the GAA goes professional, it will cease to be what it is in the hearts and minds of players and fans across the country. Playing for your club and county for local pride and a love of the sport is the life force of the GAA. And the fans support their team not because it's some well-marketed corporate entity designed to squeeze as much money out of them as possible, but because they grew up in that county/parish and often have personal or family connections with the players on the team.

We don't need transfer markets, signing fees, or an indefinite period of Dublin dominance. Money corrupts. Keep the GAA as pure as possible for future generations.

The amateur nature of GAA sports also makes it very accessible and means that teams will never be swamped by foreign players with no attachment to the local area looking for a paycheque, as has happened to soccer.

I agree that ticket prices for semi-finals and finals are a bit pricey, and the frequency of replays is more than a little suspicious, but I know of many GAA clubs in my local area that received large GAA HQ grants for development in recent years. On balance, while far from perfect, the GAA is grand as far as sports governing bodies go. You need only look at FIFA or the FAI to know that.
