Race perception in India

How does race work in India? Like what race do Indians think they are? Do they think of themselves as one race or multiple races? Do they think people in places like Afghanistan or Iran are the same race as them? How does the North/South Indo-Aryan/Dravidian divide and the Northeast play into this? Why do a lot of Indians describe themselves as "wheatish"?

multiple races like Europeans do. one of my friends is a Pahadi, the other is Tamil, one is a Bihari, I'm a Punjabi and so on.

there's no concept of "white" or "black", the word for "white" in Hindi is "gorey", which is applied to light skinned Indians as well.

if you can wear a turban and a kurta, and aren't the typical "blue eyed blonde haired" white person, you can literally pass as a local to most. I knew a tourist from England who often dressed up as Indian to not get charged higher fees in tourist places, guy was a miser.

same thing happens to my dad's friend's wife, who is from the North East, the tourist officials think she's Chinese or Japanese and constantly try to charge her higher fees until she shows her citizenship proof.

also many south indians think they wuzz black and shit. i'm not joking, you have the indians in trinidad and tobago acting all hood and shiet and ironically there is a lot of intermarriage with blacks.

>Do they think of themselves as one race or multiple races?
Latter
>Do they think people in places like Afghanistan or Iran are the same race as them?
No but Indians have a favourable opinion on both of them especially Afghanis. Probably because they both mutually dislike Pakistan.
>How does the North/South Indo-Aryan/Dravidian divide and the Northeast play into this?
Heavily. Dravidians(only Tamils) do not comply with the north and have always been secessionists. They don’t speak Hindi and are extremely autistic about muh language. Tamil Naadu has always been Kashmir 2.0. The North East is similar but very ostracised.
>Why do a lot of Indians describe themselves as "wheatish"?
That’s the general skin tone for a majority of Indians without a lot of Australoid admixtures.

too many questions, and they are very general, better go read some general history about South Asia and Hinduism

>one of my friends is a Pahadi, the other is Tamil, one is a Bihari, I'm a Punjabi and so on.
Aren't those ethnic groups?
>which is applied to light skinned Indians as well.
I thought gori were Westerners
>until she shows her citizenship proof.
Lol so the guy from England could pass as a local but she can't?
>also many south indians think they wuzz black and shit.
Isn't prejudiced against Blacks a problem in India? Do they really think they are Black like Africans?

>Latter
What are these races?
>That’s the general skin tone for a majority of Indians without a lot of Australoid admixtures.
Could you provide an example? Cause like when I think of wheat I just think yellow but I don't think most Indians are yellow

What kind of indian is in pic? That’s what comes to mind for me when someone mentions Indians

South Indian.

Indians don’t classify each other as race but more on ethnic bases. For us, “black” races are Tamilians or Mallus.

Is it true cleaning street shits was job for lower caste members? Non-meme honest question.

>ironically there is a lot of intermarriage with blacks
actually traditionally there was very little intermarriage between different ethnic groups in Trinidad (Tobago is mostly blacks), they lived in different communities and didn't had much communication between them

race in south asia is confusing.
for instance, would you believe if I said this girl was Pakistani?

of course, not all Pakistanis, not even 50% of them, look like this, but a decent amount do.

for instance, when British officers in India would spy on Indian rebels, they would pose as a Nooristani, because they'd be able to pass as one.

Yes.

Thanks. The caste system is very interesting

Hmm... I read that article and it seems people were outraged at that persons for calling South Indians "Black" so to me that tells me that you guys must at least be aware that Black is usually used to mean African otherwise I don't see why people would be outraged if it was just a skin color.

Are you asking about scavenging, the yeah and it's unfortunate as a lot of times it's manual and quite a lot of them die in septic tanks.

>European
Really?

thats just a few south indians coping in general. mentioning caste/skin colour in modern india is considered racist and you dont say such things in public anymore

anyone who has taken a tour of india knows what historians call the "Indian Racial Cline". See

>you guys must at least be aware that Black is usually used to mean African
Fun fact: “Negro” in the apartheid era also described Indians. The first “negro” Chief Justice of South Africa was Navi Pillay, a Tamil woman, who got in on Mandela’s recommendation. However, today she’s just the first Indian Chief Justice.

Yes black is looked as inferior and associated with Africans. South Indians especially Tamils are insulted as blackies and Africans. Skin lightening creams is a major industry in India.

That's Nuristan and Kashmir, yeah. They have low populations, but they come pretty light skinned, and a lot come out even light eyed.

Pic related.

Someone should've told them not to touch the Goombas while collecting gold coins

How are Arabs viewed in India?
