I think it's because you can only get the pleasure of drinking from alcohol, while with pork there is not much pleasure to gain so it's easier to abstain from it. same reason for sex.

Most religious people aren't religious because they sat down, really thought about it and realised that the correct belief system is the one everyone else in their community happens to already practice.

I'm an atheist because I wasn't brought up with any religion and I've never been convinced otherwise. The same is true for the vast majority of religious people.
