it struck me that this guy was born when sweden was still poor and miserable.

in his final decades, he also got to witness the dismantling of the welfare state.
it fascinated me that this guy grew up with the best days ahead of him. still young, he got to experience those precious days. then, at his old age, he could truly look back and say that things were better in his day.
