Does anyone else think coffee is way too expensive? I shouldn’t have to pay nearly $2 for a cup of shitty coffee

Does anyone else think coffee is way too expensive? I shouldn’t have to pay nearly $2 for a cup of shitty coffee.

Is there a reason why nobody undercuts the market and sells coffee for like $0.50? Bulk coffee is cheap as shit. Economies of scale and whatnot.

Make your own, nigger
Buy a coffee maker for $15
Some ground beans for like $8 lasts you a month
It's not $0yboy tier French pressed bullshit but it's a nice break from getting ass raped for $2+/cup

if you think its expensive now just wait 5 fucking years.
Then youl know what expensive is

> sell coffee for .50
> go out of business

It’s obviously a business idea you moron

No one's going to sell a cup of coffee for 50 cents when they can sell it for 2 dollars. The reason no one sells coffee for cheap is the same reason no one sells anything for extremely cheap. Not because they won't be able to make a profit, but because they won't be able to make as much profit.

Minimal prices, probably.

More people would decide to buy coffee if it were cheaper. I would buy way more coffee on the go if it were $0.50

It's not 1950 user, a gallon of gas isn't 50 cents either

You're right, but it's less profit over all. More people would be buying, but since the coffee is so much cheaper, the seller is making less profit on each purchase. If you got out the supply and demand curves and did some basic calculus you would probably find that 50 cents is not the most profitable price to be selling coffee, obviously since pretty much no one sells it at that price. If a small coffee shop did it, their supply wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand and they would be at a constant shortage. If a big company did it, then other big companies would be forced to follow and they would all be making less money on each cup sold, and big companies don't really like that.

Gas is essential for most people. The price is pretty inelastic. I don’t buy coffee very often because $2-3 is a rip off. Lets say in a month I buy coffee 5 times for $2. That’s a total of $10 they’ve taken from me.

But if a cup was $0.50, I would most likely increase my consumption to a cup a day because of it’s utility (probably more than that but let’s say a cup a day). That would be $15 for them. Literally 50% higher margin by lowering their prices.

Do you even economics? Coffee doesn't get cheaper the more they sell to you. To a degree it does (economics of scale) but there is some hard limit under which the company doesn't make any profit anymore.
Let's say one coffee costs them $0.49 them your 15coffees@$0.50 will make them 0.15$ a month while your 10 coffees at $2 makes them $15.1 a month

Have you tried giving up caffeine, you get your natural energy back after a while.
> TFW you realize you need coffee just to feel normal, like a junkie
Think about how much money you can save in a year

It doesn’t cost 49 cents to produce a cup of coffee. Coffee shops make a killing because the profit margins on drinks are ridiculous. $2 by and far is overpriced

After awhile your body definitely gets use to it and no longer affects you. People just drink it as a signal to get work done.

one post in and nubiz already missed the point

Wrong - while a tolerance does build, constant use will also bring dependency, where it is necessary to stave off a massive headache and other withdrawal symptoms.

It was an example that more sales doesn't necessarily mean more profit.
But honestly, as the other user said, if you want good and cheap coffee make it yourself, part of the price at the coffee shop is you saving time because you don't have to prepare it.
And I think in such a mass market as the coffee market is, the sellers have quite figured out the price that people are willing to pay and it won't really go lower than that. Why should a shop sell a product without any worthwhile profit?

> I shouldn’t have to pay nearly $2 for a cup of shitty coffee.
You don't. Buy a coffee machine and make your own. Comes out to about $0.10 per cup for a cheap but tolerable brand.

>Is there a reason why nobody undercuts the market and sells coffee for like $0.50?
Yeah, because there's no reason to. People are willing to pay for $2 coffees because that's the cost of being a lazy fuck.
