If I want to start stacking metal is it better to have it in coin or bar form?

Whichever one is flatter.
Four points that come to mind:
When holding gold was made illegal in the US and it was confiscated, those that held it as coins could claim it was as a collection/hobby so were exempt (or so I read somewhere)
Coins are harder to counterfeit, although that shouldn't matter if you get somewhere legit
Check the tax rules for your country. I many places, coins are exempt from capital gains tax whereas you would be liable for it on bars
However, coins are usually more expensive and have a premium on them because they take a bit more effort to produce.
1000oz bars of Silver is the only way to do it.
Bullion coins. Gov't minted, nominal value as "legal tender", more widely recognized than rounds struck by a private mint.
Expect to pay a premium for the manufacture, storage, and distribution of bullion coins. For the American Eagle series:
Silver: Spot Price + $2
Gold: (1 oz - 3%, 1/2 oz - 5%, 1/4 oz - 7%, 1/10 oz - 9%)
Coins are more recognizable. Generic bars are alright. But the closer it is to spot price generally the less well respected it is.

Buy whatever you want, just buy it from a legit dealer.
Too many counterfeits floating around. they ruined collecting pamp suisse for me because of the amount of fakes.
I stick with philharmonics because they are sexy as hell, and mexican libertads because as they get older the premiums go up. they also get this beautiful toning as they age.
Get 1oz - 10z coins or bars. If you plan to hold for a long time or have a silver fetish then stack 100oz bars and feel like a boss.
Coins, coins, coins. Always get coins, never get a bar they are very easily counterfeited. You can verify that a coin is real in 2 seconds using audio frequencies. Best coins in my opinion are 90AU/10CU alloy (like the krugerrands or old 20 francs). They are more durable and won't scratch easily.
Bars. They look cooler.

coins: awesome looking, go up in value with age, legal tender
bars: ugly, never go up in value, filled with lead, pirates never had chests full of bars
>legal tender
you mean the fake $ amount? kek. Who would take a gold eagle to a buy some mcdonalds.
What about silver coins? Are they easy to cointerfeit/check?
I created a spreadsheet to produce frequencies for any gold or silver coin. Although silver is less likely to be counterfeit because it's value is far lower than say gold or platinum of the same weight.
It depends on what you think will happen and the metal you want to invest in.
For silver I'd just go with 10th oz rounds.
For gold, if you expect the industries and processing centers to never fail, get straight gold bars. If you're hedging against societal collapse that could effect precious metal processing, you should prepare for barter and get the gram divisible gold bars.
>Although silver is less likely to be counterfeit
don't count on that nigga cadmium is cheap as fuck plentiful in china they use it for dirt cheap toxic jewelry and shit.
Coins, and don't buy on eBay.
of course real good forgeries would use two metals that are mixed to produce the specific density of silver. for example cadmium amalgam.
I thought the consensus was that 1 oz gov't issued coins such as Canada's Maple Leaves were the best bet

Those are dumb. Also I wouldn't buy a coin with some royals smug face on it. I don't hold silver any more, but if I did I would get generic APMEX rounds, they are the best bang for your buck and the best price to sell back for. I believe APMEX coins are just Sunshine Mint coins produced for them.
On balance increased today... but price dropped... accumulation?
The only precious metal that will possibly have any value if SHTF, is lead. Cast in 9mm and 5.56 preferably./
If you're buying into the PM meme at least do it for the right reasons user
Honestly desu i feel you but see the royals on bullion meme as kind of historical
